Honeymoon . . . Thailand or Puerto Rico?

Joyce, on March 18, 2021 at 1:28 AM Posted in Honeymoon 2 7

From what I am understanding, since our wedding is in the beginning of September 2021, we would have to put our honeymoon off until January or February of 2022 due to weather. However, Puerto Rico is easily available to travel since it's U.S. territory.

But on the other hand, Thailand has the perfect weather for a November 2021 honeymoon, but unsure about traveling internationally.

Please share your experiences, thoughts, ideas, and suggestions!

Thanks!

I wouldn't yet bank on international travel, even in November.

If you DO make plans for that, I would make sure they are fully refundable or moveable.

We decided to stay in us. I’m just too scared that if we go somewhere outside the country n then catch a cold or have a temp they prob won’t let us on the plane back home.

As I’m sure you know, Thailand has really strict entry requirements at that moment, including a mandatory two week stay in quarantine. There are indications that may be changed for people who have been vaccinated, but there’s no clear timeline for that. And as we’ve all seen over the past year, requirements can change back and forth at short notice.

If you want certainty, I think planning for PR would be the better option. If you are ok with not tying things down for a while, then maybe hang on and see how things develop.

Things are constantly changing with the requirements. We’re going to Jamaica for our honeymoon on 4/5/21 (wedding is on 4/3/21). We’ve been vaccinated but we still have to show proof of a negative COVID test & the earliest we can do that is on 4/2. We have to be tested again 72 hours before we fly home. If we get the virus while we’re there, the resort will put us up for up to 2 weeks free of charge. If the airlines charge us for changing flights, the resort will cover the cost. Check & see what the options are & what they will cover.

As others have said, I would probably stick with PR because we don't know what the future holds right now, unless you're okay with booking a last minute honeymoon if it's possible. I don't know about Thailand's procedures, but I know that Singapore is extremely strict, requiring you to take a test before you even get on the flight, then you have to quarantine in a hotel that they choose for you for 2 weeks and you can't leave until you test negative after those 2 weeks are up. So it could be rough if they're still doing that by November.

My FH's family live in PR so we are talking about going there too. Just keep in mind that September is the peak of hurricane season, which runs June-November, and that your plans might need to be a little flexible.

Let us know how you decide and, wherever you go, have fun!
