Honeymoon Suggestions

I’ve lived in Colorado most of my life and haven’t really been East except by airplane so I can’t suggest things along the way, but there are so many places to come see in Colorado. We have tons of cute Mountain towns, miles and miles of trails, unique things like the great sand dunes, hot springs, etc etc etc. Many of our Mountain towns have mines you can tour, some like Georgetown have train tours. Feel free to with any questions or other recommendations, my brain is a little scattered right now!

Do you have any suggestions for specific towns we should check out?

That sounds like so much fun!! My FH & I want to do a long road trip across country one day. How long are y’all planning to travel? I ask because that’s a long ways to drive there and back, or you could consider renting a car and then flying back. Do you know what your route looks like?


My mom & I did a Deep South road trip a few years ago. I picked one particular fun thing to do in each state, some bigger like snorkeling with manatees, some were smaller like seeing the worlds largest fork in Missouri. I know my mom and I both love Chihuly’s art, so I found an exhibit of his in Oklahoma.

Vegas, San Diego, Puerto Rico, and Napa Valley would probably be my first suggestions. Congratulations!! 💕

We want the road trip to be part of the fun... so, we want to have a few stops planned to explore different areas along the way. But I like the idea of renting a car and flying back! We don't have a route mapped out yet, we just starting talking about it the other night.


I also really like the idea of finding something to do in each state! How did you plan that? Any tips on finding fun things that aren't too far off your planned route?

I just used a lot of Google and trip advisor. Oh and Atlas Obscura. You might want to pull up Google map directions from home to the final destination, then you can look at cities you’ll pass through and use that to Google things to do. I used this site to organize what I planned: https://trips.furkot.com/ It also helped to estimate when you’d need to stop for gas, food, and sleep. My mom and I only had the first night reserved (stayed at a resort that also did manatee snorkeling), the rest of the nights we played by ear. Also several years ago we did a trip up to Niagara Falla, we had the hotel booked for when we’d be in Niagara Falla, but we went out of the way going up to visit a few new states and see a few of my college friends. Road trips can be a lot of fun. They can also be trying and boring at times too. When we toured the south, we did it over New Years thinking most of the states are warmer than NC at this time, only a huge cold front came through and it was too cold to do some of the things we originally planned. Definitely good to leave some things to play by ear.

As for the flying thing, I’ve visited 32 states, Most of where I still need to visit is on the western half of the country, my goal is to pick a state to fly to, rent a car or even RV and road trip through a few states then fly back home.

Also, if you’re looking to rent a car (whether you fly or not), make sure to get one with unlimited miles. Enterprise typically charges by mile for anything out of state. We used Hertz the last time.

Anna's got good ideas. I also wonder if AAA still has a website? They used to offer all kinds of guides and maps and stuff, but I don't know if the internet has overtaken them.

I did a lot of road tripping with my dad growing up, so the car rides don't bother me too much, but I know they can get boring! Haha... anyway, thanks again! View Quoted Comment I’ve only been to Steamboat and Glenwood Springs, but everyone tells us we need to go to Pagosa. I guess it really depends on what other things you want to do while you’re here or which direction you’re coming from/where you plan to go from here because that determines what part of the state you want to be in. Steamboat is a good 8+ hours from Denver, but Idaho springs and others off I-70 are much closer if you want to do things in the city too.

I'd definitely keep an eye on Covid updates and outbreaks. I'm in New Hampshire and right now the northeast is doing great but the rest of the country, not so much.

I do think you can do a really amazing trip in the US though, and the United States is so big and diverse that you can easily end up in a different part of the country and everything will look and feel different. Different landscape, different food, different culture, etc, but the same currency and usually the same language. What sort of stuff are you into? I love the outdoors, but for our honeymoon we'd also want some good restaurants and stuff, and some of my favorite places that I would absolutely recommend for a different feel include Sedona, Arizona (but not right now... too hot and Covid) or the Tetons and Yellowstone in Wyoming. The Pacific Northwest is also really beautiful, but I've spent limited time there. Colorado would be a nice change from New England - the Rockies are popular (and beautiful) but it varies a lot from east to southwest to the mountains, so I'd research before you go. If I were visiting Colorado for the first time I'd probably pick some place in the Rockies (from Rocky Mountain National Park down to the San Juan Mountains) or maybe check out the Great Sand Dunes (haven't been there, but it looks cool).

We like the outdoors, but also like restaurants and quirky shops and stuff too! I'll definitely do some research on some of your recommendations!
