Honeymoon St. Lucia, Belize, or France?

A_A, on May 5, 2017 at 8:29 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

Hello! We're in the process of looking for our honeymoon destination, and have narrowed it down to St. Lucia, Belize, and Paris. We've also talked about Bali and possibly somewhere in Greece. Have any of you gone to either of these places? any recommendations?

We would be going in March right after our wedding.

I love love love Greece! Santorini is just so beautiful. I lived in Greece for 5 months and the people there are so nice and friendly. You can see sights and get beach time! Best of both worlds.

I've been to Belize and I would not chose it over the other locations you mentioned. It's much poorer and not as nice. I enjoyed it but of the places you mentioned I don't think it can compare.

Paris is wonderful! But not beachy - it's all about the sites and culture! I loved the sites and crepes! But I didn't find people to be as friendly.

I think it's more about what you want out of a vacation and also the weather at the time you go in respect to what you want out of the trip.

We wanted beach and culture. I love beaches but I also like site seeing & art. We're trying to find something that offers both even if we have to split the trip in two parts. Although we would stay in one country only. We did Costa Rica this past summer and loved that we could do beach, adventure, and cultural stuff. It's so hard to pick one place!

Thank you so much for the response. I will definitely look more into Santorini.

@a-a also take a look at cruises to just Greece (where you island hop) or Greece and Italy - there's tons and I think you'd get that mix you're looking for depending on the ports and islands you chose

We originally wanted to go to Belize and stay in a tree house at Hamanasi Resort. Looks incredible!! Unfortunately it was a little out of our budget so we opted for two weeks in Thailand and Bali. You get more bang for your buck there. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those places.

Belize is, to this day, one of the best trips I've ever taken. If you dive, go not before the reef becomes even more destroyed. I was there in 2009 and it was still gorgeous but definitely seeing signs of damage.

You are going to get a very different vibe with Paris over Beliz or St Lucia. Paris is wonderful and can be quite romantic, however you are going to want to visit all the cultural sites if you have never been before. You would have a similar consideration for Greece. A lot of folks don't want the pressure of trying to fit it all in for their honeymoons and would rather relax and enjoy each other - something you will get more of (without the guilt of not exploring) in Beliz or St Lucia. Also in Paris in March is 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit (Greece will be slightly warmer at around 50-60) if that is a consideration for your enjoyment. Between Beliz and St Lucia I would just decide if you want more cultural experience or a more traditional resort honeymoon feel. St Lucia has more of the latter while Beliz has more of the former. Response number 1 on this trip advisor question has a really good breakdown of the pros and cons of each.

I'm going to Bali for honeymoon in Sept this year. We think it's a good mix of culture and beach.

IMO, Belize is only good for a vacation spent entirely inside of a nice resort. I did not enjoy Belize and I wouldn't go again. It is an INCREDIBLY poor country and I felt uncomfortable (unsafe?) outside of the resort, I also realize that not everyone feels the same way so take this with a grain of salt.

I would go to the French Riveriera in the South, that way both beach + European experience.

We came back from ST Lucia. We are outdoorsy so we stayed at a place called Ladera. We had our own private pool in the room and the resort was elevated on a hill. The room was 3 walls with the 4th completely open to the view of the 2 mountains (pitons). The bed was surrounded by mosquito netting and under roof. It was the most romantic stress free sexy vacation we have ever been on. Fell asleep to sounds of tree frogs and woke up to birds chirping. If you like being outside this place is a must! Unforgettable experience. I would search photos of ladera. It is somewhat pricey but completely worth it. Super romantic . Especially star gazing at night!
