Honeymoon Recs- Greece, South Africa, Costa Rica

Lexi, on January 5, 2017 at 8:50 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

Hey everyone!

My FH and I are looking for a honeymoon spot where we are able to be adventurous but also relax on a beach. Our top choices are Greece (Santorini), South Africa, or Costa Rica. We are looking to spend around $4,000 (don't know how realistic that is) and are planning on going in the middle of July for 7 nights. Any recommendations for sites to book through or resorts to stay at would be much appreciated. I have looked at a lot of the forums on here and haven't found anything that meets our specific needs. Thanks in advance!!

South Africa is rather nice but it would be winter time in July. If you're looking for a safari though Tanzania has some good ones!

South Africa in July is rainy and chilly. I went for a summer (summer in the states) study aboard in May/June and I wouldn't consider it beach weather! - I was around Cape Town! Also my flight alone was $1,400 for one person.

Santorini was one of the most BEAUTIFUL and romantic places I have ever been!! We got this cute little villa that had the greatest views on the island and it was only $220 a night! Honestly, I think you can stick within your budget if you keep a heads up for some flight deals!

If you want to be adventurous but also telex Costa Rica is prefect! It'll also be the cheapest flight out of those.

Costa Rica offers all inclusive packages so that might be your best bet price wise

We are honeymoon twins it seems. I have been actively looking at Costa Rica, Belize, and Greece. FH said where ever I want (but I don't want to go broke so I know it is best to stay under 5k). We just spent a week in St. Thomas in July so I was thinking Greece would give us a beach and cultural experience.

Depending on where you're coming from in the states, the airfare to Santorini and SA could bust your budget (a quick look at google flights shows the average, pp NYC to Santorini roundtrip is about $1000). That being said - love Santorini, and we might end up in the Greek Isles for our honeymoon (we live in Europe though, so flights are reasonable)...or Japan.

Just throwing it out there, but you could easily spend half your budget on plane tickets esp to South Africa. My DH and I are going to New Zealand/ Australia in March (similar distance as Africa) and our round trip flight from Chicago to Auckland is running us $1350 pp. Then, depending on how long you're staying, hotels will get you. Including all of our flights and 3 weeks of hotels, we've forked over 8K. If you add in tours, food, etc., we'll easily hit 12-14K

I think Costa Rica is more doable. DH and I did Belize for 10 days in 2014, and we spent a total of 5K all in.

We're going to Santorini and found a ton of great places through VRBO. Definitely doable for 7 nights under $4k, depending on where you're flying from I guess.
