Honeymoon Postponed due to Covid!

Skylar, on November 2, 2020 at 11:47 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18
Hello fellow brides!

I need help. We are getting married on May 1st, 2021 and have already booked and paid for our entire honeymoon to Paris. I have dreamed of going to Paris my whole life and now, it’s not looking too good. I’ve been trying to stay positive, but as we’re nearing the end of 2020, I just don’t see things clearing up with this virus anytime soon. We’re trying to decide if we should wait it out until about February and then try to get our money back, or just go ahead and postpone it for our 1 year anniversary! We still want to go on a nice honeymoon, even if it’s somewhere in the states. If anyone has any suggestions of resorts for a honeymoon, would be amazing.

Sorry to say it, but the Government here is most likely not letting tourists outside of Europe enter until next Summer. At the moment, we aren't even allowed to be more than 1km from our own home.

Things are rough right now, but I think you should at least wait until the new year.

It's hard to be patient on this kind of thing, but that's still more than 6 months from now.

I highly suggest postponing to your one year anniversary, you still deserve that dream trip! We decided to postpone our St. Lucia honeymoon about three months before we would have gone on it. Now it will be so special to celebrate our one year anniversary there and know everything we went through to earn it.

For our actual honeymoon we’re going to Disneyworld and staying at one of their gorgeous luxury resorts. It’s a huge treat for us because we usually stay at the cheapest hotels there.

I can only speak for flights and not hotel accommodations, do not cancel your flights yourself, wait for the airline to cancel it instead. As it gets closer and closer to your flight date, if flying to Paris is still not permitted in the Spring from the US, the airline will cancel it for you for a full refund. If YOU cancel it, you'll get a credit instead.

I just had this happen to me for my honeymoon to Florence and Rome. United cancelled our flight in September for my October honeymoon and the airline gave us a full refund (minus travel insurance but that wasn't much) instead of us cancelling it and getting travel credit. Just gotta be patient.

Just like your lifelong dream is to go to Paris, mine is drinking wine under the Tuscan sun. Hope we can both get there one day sooner than later!

We will probably try to honeymoon within the US because flights will be cheaper/or we can drive. Not sure if we will get all of our money back for Paris, of if we will get vouchers to use at a later date!

Wow that’s so unfortunate but thank you for telling me that. It’s tough to know what’s best, but we may just need to go ahead and postpone it.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking! I don’t think it will be gone then, but some new measures may be in place. I think non February 1st we will make our decisions.

Hi! That’s so awesome. We’re you able to get vouchers for everything for your St. Lucia trip? We have flights, hotels in the city, and our Disneyland hotel paid for and I’m not sure how to even go about requesting the voucher/refund.

Enjoy Disney World. I’m a cast member there and love it so dearly! 🥰

I didn’t know that! Thank you so much! I guess my only concern is waiting and watching for the flight to get cancelled, and then it either does and then we need to make other plans quickly, or it doesn’t, and we would have to cancel the new plans (because I was thinking of making new plans on February 1st). I feel like if I wait just a month before to decide, it will add stress that I don’t want.

Totally understandable! Just keep a lookout! I moved my wedding so my situation was a little different. I was waiting patiently for that airline refund because I wasn't going on a honeymoon not married yet haha. If you end up cancelling it yourself and don't mind having an airline credit, use that credit for a domestic honeymoon!

That’s true too. I guess I’m okay with airline credit because we would probably fly with the same company when going to Paris eventually! I’ll keep thinking about it. I hope you get to enjoy Rome and Florence, sooner than later! 🥰

So concerning hotel reservations; hotels here must reimburse you if you reserved before this current lockdown i.e 29th of October. You can also opt for a voucher that is valid for 18 months. If you do not use it in that time, it will automatically be reimbursed. Hotels are being super flexible. If you don't mind me asking, which hotels have you reserved?

That’s good to know! We booked both hotels in May! One of them is in the city of Paris (I forgot the name) and the other is a Disneyland Resort so we’re not worried about that one!

We were booked through sandals and they’ve been amazing! The hotel still isn’t open so they offered to let us change the date. We didn’t have fight booked yet, but I’ve had to cancel other trips and was able to get flight vouchers from calling the airline and talking to them about it. Most places are being very understanding right now!

Thank you! I’ve never been to Disney world, just Disney land and euro Disney so I’m excited to see the biggest one!

Hey Skylar! We're wedding twins!! I can't believe how fast May is approaching. How is planning going? Sorry to hear about your honeymoon situation. I think your trip would be a great first anniversary vacation! My FH and I really wanted to go out of the states and stay in a hut on the beach somewhere 😍 Now we're trying to map out a 2 week road trip in the US instead. If you're planning on buying plane tickets I highly recommend checking skiplagged, we use them every time we travel. Their ticket prices are the cheapest I've found! As far as destinations; Montana, Mt Ranier in Washington, Outerbanks NC are some of our favorites if you like to hike and adventure 🙂

Ahh! I’m so excited! It’ll be here before we know it! Thanks for the advice. We’re definitely waiting it out as long as possible but we’re open to many options! Enjoy your wedding and honeymoon! ❤️
