Honeymoon Planning

Samir, on June 5, 2022 at 11:36 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 4

Hello everyone,

My significant other and I are planning our honeymoon and we are facing a dilemma on our choices. We are both from France. Our budget is around 1000€ for 4 to 5 days (including flight, accommodation, spending in place, etc..)

Needs

- It would be my significant other's first international trip, so I would like to offer to her a great first experience.

- We would like an animated city in which we can go out and take a stroll as well as sightseeing (visiting museums etc...)

- In terms of accommodation, we would like a calm and a romantic spot (we are hesitating between an hotel and an AirBnB).

In terms of destinations, we have listed the following (for now, we do not know on which season we are going) :

Summer

VeniceMallorcaIbiza SantoriniBarceloneRomeCyprus

Winter

Reykjavik

Copenhagen

Can you please help us to choose a destination for a memorable honeymoon? We cannot go to a far destination such as Maldives or Bali because the flight tickets are very expensive and I do not have enough holidays from my company.

Thanks

I was in Reykjavik back in October of 2019 - it was one of the best times I've ever had! The flight was pretty good (we flew London to Reykjavik to Paris for about $200 total each, but its always more expensive doing multi city than just regular round trip), stayed in a great AirBnB that was walking distance to downtown (like 10-15 minutes and a very pretty walk along the water) and a 3 minute walk to the major bus terminal where the airport shuttle stopped/picked up, all the tours picked up from etc. We had the whole 1 bedroom apartment to ourselves and I think it was under 300$ for the 3 nights.

I booked a bunch of great tours via Viator.com - We did a Game of Thrones themed tour (since so much was shot there) where we got to see a lot of the island while being a bit on the geeky side (which fits us!!), a Northern Lights excursion (we sadly got rained out/clouded out the entire time we were there but it was fully refunded so no foul) and a half a day at the Blue Lagoon (HIGHLY recommend! It was so cool, so relaxing, and the food at the upscale restaurant was truly to die for - it was our big splurge in Iceland).

I found Iceland to be, over all, pretty reasonably priced. We were there for 3 days and didn't spend a ton. I wouldn't recommend going too much into the deep winter unless you can handle the temperatures (I'm from Boston and even I was chilly in October!) but it was really fantastic. There were so many things I wish we had done but just didn't have time to do. Definitely keep that in your mix and look at viator.com - I've done tours all over the world (UK, France, Iceland, US) all from that site. I've never been disappointed!

    Hello Orianna,

Thanks a lot for your in-depth reply and for the website, I did not know it.. Iceland is high on my list and I am a huge fan of Games of Thrones.

Does Reykjavik have the "honeymoon" vibe?

    Thanks again.

So I went with my Maid of Honor on a girl’s trip, so I wasn’t going for a romantic vibe, but I would still say Yes! There are so many types of tours you can find that have different themes and things you can do (the one I went on, a glacier one, the “gold circle” one) you can even find ones that include sunset views etc.

The Blue Lagoon definitely has romantic honeymoon vibes. It’s a natural hot spring spa and you can get different packages ranging from pretty basic to premium private massages in the waters. Definitely had a lot of couples there enjoying it. Strong recommend going to that first thing in the morning and having a fancy romantic (and so delicious) lunch at Lava. We got there at 830am and left around 2pm - wasn’t too crowded and we really were able to enjoy the whole place. As we were leaving massive tour groups were showing up.
I also think a Northern Lights tour would be very romantic. Just make sure you’re going during a time where you can see it (usually October through May).
For me, any place can be romantic if you find the right things to do and go. I didn’t even scratch the surface of all the awesome places - and I can’t wait to go back and take my fiancé.

I would personally pick from one of your summer options. The ones you have listed are known to be quite romantic- especially Venice, Rome, and Santorini
