Honeymoon: Panama City Beach, FL?

Morgan, on June 20, 2016 at 10:51 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

Has anybody been to Panama City Beach for their honeymoon or any other reason? My FH is dead set on going to Florida and this is the only city that seemed to have other fun things to do that could keep us busy for a week. We were originally planning on going to Myrtle Beach, SC and there was a ton of stuff within walking distance to do, but now he wants to go to Florida instead. If you could give me tips on what hotels are in the best spots and pretty much where the best spot would be that would have plenty of things to do that are close by! I've found some activities but everything seems spread out. We really don't want to blow pur money on cab fare! Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

We vacation every. Single. Year at PCB. My favorite condo so far has been the Majestic. It's beautiful and within walking distance of Pier Park, a shopping center with a ton of stores and restaurants. I went to Myrtle beach once and never went back.

I loved it. My family usually vacations in MB and I don't like it compared to PCB. On our last day there we rented a pontoon boat and rode out to Shell Island...it's a completely unadulterated beach and it's just a couple of minutes away from the gulf. It was really a great experience.

If you're going to PCB you may want to rent a car. I've never seen cabs out there. Personally I prefer the Destin area to PCB. There's tons if things to do & only about 30 minutes from PCB. Fort Walton Beach is another area about 15 minutes from Destin with lots of things to do as well. The beaches are absolutely stunning. I was recently married in Ft Walton Beach & the beach was beautiful. I'd Google the tourism of SoWal to see what's out there.

I live in Panama City . There is many nice hotels on the beach I would recommend you to rent a car or something cause not everything is in walking distance . The majestic is close to peir park which is shopping and a bunch of restaurants and a beach but it's always busy .

I personally tell most of my family to stay at board walk beach resort

I've been going to PCB once or twice a year for about 15 years and love it!! My husband actually proposed to me there too :-)

I use VRBO.com to find our condos each trip. You can rent beautiful condos right on the beach for next to nothing if you do some research on there. I would recommend doing a dolphin cruise while there & there are tons of yummy restaurants to eat at (Sharky's & Hammerhead Fred's are two of my favorites). I could not imagine not having a car for your trip though. There are cabs, but they aren't super available until the evenings/nights & there are lots of cool places to within a short drive to visit (St. Andrews State Park is nice for shell island). I think you will love it there!!

Skip PCB and do Destin instead or stay in between both cities at Seaside Beach. We spent every summer at Seaside growing up. It is on the smaller side. It's where The Truman Show was filmed Smiley smile If you're wanting a bigger area though with more stuff to do, I would still pick Destin over PCB.

I only went for spring break many years ago, haha. I hear they have cleaned up their act quite a bit since then. I also remember you will need a car as other posters have said!

Look at treasure Island. Its 30 mins from Tampa (good restaurants, Busch gardens) and 1.5 hrs from Orlando (Disney, universal, ect). TI is by far the prettiest beach in the area.

@FutureMrs Truit I didn't know there was another PC girl here! We should connect!!!

@OP, there is so much to do here for a honeymoon. We have beautiful state parks, natural spring canoeing, beautiful beachs, great local spots to eat. So. Much. Feel free to get my email from the mods so you can PM me for specifics.

I used to work on 30A for a summer. It's a little pricey, but totally worth it. The beaches are stunning and a lot less crowded then PCB or Destin. You can stay In a resort town like Rosemary, Alys Beach (my fav), Seaside, or WaterColor Inn. Personally I would not want to go on my honeymoon to PCB since it's super touristy and crowded. Destin is a better alternative that's about the same cost wise.

Do you still have to be 25 to rent a car? I don't know if its different in other states but I believe here in Iowa you have to be 25, and were 22 and 23.

I second @therightlane on 30A. If you can afford to stay there it is totally worth it. I used to work in the sales office at Alys Beach. Awesome community. And Caliza pool. <3

My FH was able to rent a car in PCB when we went and he was 24. Just have to take out more insurance.

@Morgan, just an FYI many of the resorts will only rent to guests who are 25 or older. Be sure to ask guest services when you call or view properties online.

I just got back from getting married in Destin. I love all the areas of the gulf coast. PCB is believe is geared towards a younger, fun, crowd. Destin is geared for more mature visitors, and the 30A area is geared to more artsy type of visitors. I've stayed in all locations and personally love Destin better. There is shopping at the outlets and plenty of places to eat. I like PCB because there are mini-amusement parks, shopping, and also plenty of restaurants. No matter where you go the beaches are amazing! You will need a car no matter where you stay however.

@ Morgan - Yes, most car rental companies require you to be 25 to rent a car. However, some places will rent a car to you if you over 21, but they charge you a lot extra per day, and I believe make you carry their insurance. I would stick to Uber or a taxi if you are under 25, as it could get costly.
