Honeymoon on the Big Island, Hawaii?

Cassidy, on February 7, 2021 at 10:14 AM Posted in Hawaii Planning 0 7

Hi there, my husband and I were supposed to take our delayed 3 years honeymoon since we were too broke and not enough time off this year to Maui and Big Island. Unfortunately it was cancelled due to covid.

I know a lot of people got married at the Royal Kona Resort, and I am interested to know what your week-long itinerary was and how you scheduled your days and tourist activities based on where you stayed on the island because of the massive size of the big island. Not sure if we should stay in Waikoloa or Kona.

We can drive within reason, but I do not want to do a day trip Hawaii Volcanos National Park and would be open to staying in Hilo or Volcano overnight. Would anyone be willing to share their experiences?

Also, we're on a budget (ideally less than 5K) so the 4 seasons is a hard-no.

I can’t help you with that trip. However, when I was pricing different locations, I found the Sandals resorts gave us the biggest bang for our buck. We spent $5700- that’s for a 7 night, 1 bedroom honeymoon suite villa with a butler & 2 round trip 1st class tickets.

Not OP. I have no clue about Sandals resorts. Are they all inclusive? Was it $5700 including meals and drinks? Or just room and flights? Also where did you fly from?

Sandals has all inclusive resorts- lodging, food, alcohol & excursions. I splurged & got us the 1 bedroom honeymoon suite villa with a butler- there are cheaper rooms. The $5700 is for everything.

You’re welcome! We budgeted $5k for the resort but I kept pricing it & we also got 10% off since my fiancé is a firefighter so the final was $3450. With the $$$ we saved on the resort, we splurged & went 1st class with the airfare. Found 2 round trip 1st class tickets for $2240 - we fly out of Phoenix Sky harbor @ 5am & land @ 220 in the afternoon (the same day). I didn’t go through a travel agent- why pay someone for something I can do myself? Went directly on the Sandals website- they also gave me a credit since I booked myself. As far as airfare- there’s a website perksatwork.com - I got points from them plus when we used our credit card in June we got triple points.

Unfortunately I have my heart set on Hawaii. I looked at Sandals and they were WAY too expensive for what I would've liked to have. I mean I know I could get more for my money, but I am not at all interested in staying the whole time at the resort. But Sandals DOES look super beautiful if you want to go to the Caribbean.

Just Hawaii has been on my bucket list forever so I am not willing to compromise on the location. Thanks for sharing.

Eventually we’re going to HI. We’re not staying the whole time at the resort. They have excursions all over the area. They also have stay at 1 but play at all! If it’s on your bucket list than go for it! The world’s a big beautiful place- lets see it while we can!
