Honeymoon: Nashville and Gatlinburg, fun things to do?

FutureMrsBibee, on December 11, 2013 at 11:31 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 19

For our honeymoon we are going to Nashville (staying in a little cottage) and Gatlinburg (staying in a B&B) for a few days. I know there are a lot of great things to do at both locations, but I would love some ideas from you ladies! From restaurants, to attractions, to things to do, ect. We are willing to drive a bit also if it is worth it. Anything is appreciated, thank you!

There are SO many things you can do in Gatlinburg! They have adorable little cabins and all the Ripley stuff is really fun. Just know that it is a bit expensive bc it's a tourist area, but it should be super fun! Also, Pigeon forge is pretty close. It also has a lot of attractions. Have fun and happy planning!

I live in Nashville! Rock Bottom is a really cool brewery that's right down on music row, it's really convenient to go eat there and then go hit the bars (the all have live music and no cover charges at any of the ones I've ever been to). If you like country music, there's the Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole' Opry.

There's also Dollywood in Gatlinburg, lots of stuff to do there.

We stayed in pigeon forge in August. Its less than a 20 min drive from Gatlinburg. Here are some things we did or would have

*Drove (and walked) to the highest point in the smokey mts

*NASCAR speedpark. For $20 you can ride go carts all day. It was fun but a bit run down

    *LOTS of shopping

*In Gatlinburg, go have some moonshine, downtown there is a place that lets you sample for free

    *Ziplining

    *mine for gems

    *drank gallons of sweet tea

Be prepared its VERY pricey. One night we got BBQ and it cost $70 for a 2 adults and 2 small kids

Another night pizza, $50 for two pizzas and an appetizer

I only stopped for the night passing through, but I am old enough to have enjoyed the TV show Dukes of Hazzard. So when we saw the flyers for Cooter's Place we HAD to go! It was a blast and free if I remember.

I didn't love Nashville and we covered it within a day. We did the usual touristy, country stuff. We plan to visit friends in Gatlinburg next year.

I would go to Pigeon Forge over Gatlinburg. It's more affordable and there's so much more fun things to do there (IMO).

We are doing Gatlinburg as well for our honeymoon. I really need to sit down and think of things to do each day! There will probably be a day where we just sit around the cabin and relax without having to chase a one year old! haha

You HAVE to go to Cades Cove while in Gatlinburg. If you have never heard of it, look it up. If you like doing outdoor activities or just riding in the car, this is perfect! You get to see some old home sites, churches, grave yards, etc. There is a waterfall called Abrams Falls that you can walk to also. You might want to make sure how far it is though. I think its a pretty good ways. You might also enjoy going to Cataloochee. Its on the North Carolina side of the mountains. They have some old homes and stuff too, but I think the main reason a lot of people go over that way is to see the elk. I have been and they are amazing to sit and watch! Also, if you are up for the challenge, you should definitely walk up to the top of Clingmans Dome. The walk up is hard, but the view is amazing once you get to the top! If you don't want to walk to the top, then the view from the parking lot is pretty great too! I could go on and on for days on what you should do in the mountains! I love it!

There are plenty of things that you can do without spending money(except for gas and eating). If you go to one of the visitor centers-- There is one between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge-- one of the workers in there can give you all kinds of info on stuff to do.

I live in Nashville and there is just so much to do. Give me an example of what you like- do you want to drink/party? Or do want to see some music? Or see some typical tourist stuff?

Brooke hit it for Gatlinburg. We LOVE cades cove and clingmans dome. They are a must! There's also a historic train ride we did that was neat. I think it was an hour away. It rode next to a river and took you to a cute old town for a few hours. Tubing or kayaking is great too or ziplines. For restaurants we loved the apple barn (I think...apple something lol.) and the old mill is a must. So yummy! :-)

I want to do the train ride, but we haven't got around to it. We are also thinking about going back to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for our honeymoon and there is SO much that I want to do! There is a sky-lift in Gatlinburg that was like $12 each to ride. It was neat. The view was pretty good also! If you enjoy dinner shows, The Dixie Stampede is nice. Its kinda pricey, but you get lots of food and the show is good. Its one of those been there, done that kinda things. I don't think I will ever go again unless its to take my children one day. Dollywood is also in Pigeon Forge. The Titanic, Wonderworks, Hollywood Wax Museum, Rainforest Zoo. I promise, yall wont run out of things to do. You might run out of money, but not things to do! The shopping is pretty great too! There is a huge outlet mall!

Just looking at your wedding date, if you do go to Clingman's Dome... make sure you pack WARM clothes with you as well. The temperature from the bottom to the hike up to the dome can be hugely different and I was pretty cold up top in the summer.. lol

I agree, Cade's Cove was very cool in Gatlinburg. We saw bears!! Woop woop!
As far as restaurants, I recommend The Park Grill in Gatlinburg. It was awesome.

ETA: I thought OberGatlinburg was totally overrated. We spent like a minute there.

Thank you ladies! I'll definitely look into all of your recommendations. Sarah, my fiancé and I would like to do some tourist things, we really want to find great restaurants, comedy clubs, concerts, art galleries. He doesn't drink, but I do so no full on bars.

The Island in Pigeon Forge. You can ride the new "wheel". Its right in the middle of town in Pigeon Forge. It's an enclosed Temperature controlled ferris wheel. Go late at night and see all the lights in town. Also, they just opened their "fountain of lights show". We went the other night and it was great.
