Honeymoon; Maldives vs. Antigua Help

Marah, on May 10, 2019 at 1:34 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 4

Hi,

My fiance and I are in the process of planning our honeymoon. We are getting married in October and we can not decide between the two. How far in advance would you suggest to book to get the best rates? And if you have been there before, which island would you recommend?

I can only speak for Antigua since is the only one I have visited. Antigua is beyond beautiful, the beaches are to die for. So clean & clear! There isn't really much to see in the island but beach wise I think is amazing. On the other hand I have heard great things about Maldives and I think it is a bit fancier. It all depends on what you and your fh are in the mood for. I don't think you can go wrong with either one to be honest.

We’re heading to the Maldives in August/September after our wedding and there was a thread recently on the Maldives that someone put together that really helped. The biggest thing we didn’t realize was that while the flights to get to Male, Maldives were pretty cheap, the flights to each resort is between $200-500 additional per person, roundtrip which gets pretty expensive quickly in addition to the cost of hotel room and food. Meeru Island seems to be a pretty popular place to stay and was highly recommended from other WeddingWire couples so we may opt for there!

    Happy honeymoon planning!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Marah!

Have either you or your SO ever been to either location? What type of honeymoon are you hoping to have? Are you both really active and like to get out and see the sights, or are you planning on the ultimate chill out vacation? You could make a list of things that you want to do at each destination and see which one wins out overall.

Will you be booking your honeymoon yourself, or will you be using a travel agency?

No both of us haven't been to either one. We wanted a chill out vacation but wanted to be able to do activities as well. We were looking at booking it ourselves.
