Honeymoon in St. Martin vs Punta Cana...anyone been there?

nahantbride15, on February 12, 2015 at 7:26 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

We were thinking of having our Honeymoon in St. Martin. Has anyone been there before? What hotel did you stay at, what do you recommend we do there?

Should we stay there or Punta Cana?

on a slight budget (

We did Punta Cana and enjoyed it a lot. We stayed at the Excellence. We spent about 5k for 7 nights including round trip flights and transportation, and upgraded room.

I went to St. Martin on a cruise once, but don't remember much. It was pretty.

Hello from Kelly Burnett, owner and travel expert of Travel by Kelly, a Big Congrats on your engagement! I have been to and planned many trips for many clients to both these destinations. Both great choices! I would say however that because our money goes really far in the Dominican Republic, you really get a big bang for your buck there. With some great adults only , all inclusive resorts you can get some nice upgraded room categories for pretty reasonable and stay within a decent honeymoon budget. A few resorts to consider are the Excellence and the Secrets, a couple of my faves, just to name a few. St Martin is a fun island with a different feel, as it's very European, half the island is Dutch and 1/2 is French. things are a bit pricey there. I stayed at the Sonesta Great Bay on the dutch side.

one day we took the ferry over to Anguilla (another island near by) which was really fun.

I am more than happy to help, make suggestions ,answer questions, and get you quotes, it would be my pleasure. Feel free to check out my storefront here on wedding wire and reach out to me anytime.

Good luck with all your wedding planning and remember to have fun!

    Love more....Dream more....Travel more....Kelly

We stopped for an afternoon while on a cruise. I HIGHLY recommend doing the 'sailing the America's Cup Ships". Even if you're not sailors. Seriously, none of us sail, but we had a blast pretending we were crewing that ship (OK, OK-- I was the 'barmaid'-- I just handed out drinks), AND we won! I have taken half a dozen cruises in the caribbean, and that is by far the best excursion I ever did!
