Honeymoon in September!

Katie, on January 19, 2020 at 9:35 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
We’re trying to plan our honeymoon for the last week in September, but feeling a little discouraged because it will be peak hurricane season in the Caribbean. We had our hearts set on a beautiful, tropical setting that’s all inclusive. Any ideas on what our backup plan could be?! I’ve looked into somewhere further like Maldives and Fiji, but those places are outside of our budget. 😕

You could definitely get lucky, my mom and dad did an anniversary trip to Antigua last year in September with no issue (their anniversary is 9/22) but buy travel insurance because the tropics are unpredictable and be prepared that your dream honeymoon could get canceled.

Antigua is my top choice actually! 🙂 Yeah we’ll definitely look into travel insurance if we end up going there.

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are all carribean islands outside of the hurricane belt! We are also going during hurricane season (mid August) and we just booked All inclusive in Aruba at Divi Golf and Beach resort!

What about the Mediterranean? Not tropical but still warm. I went to the Balearic Islands in late September and it was beautiful!

Someone who lived in Florida 22 years here... while it's good you're thinking about hurricane season, there are certain spots where it's tougher for hurricanes to reach than others. In terms of Florida, a direct hit on the Tampa area was tough because it would require the storm to make a quick turn, whereas cities on the Atlantic coast like Miami can be straight in the path. I haven't done as much research on it, but I'm sure there are countries in similar situations. Looks like a previous poster mentioned a few!

    We are the same boat!

We are actually thinking maybe doing Hawaii for a week and Bora Bro for 5 days. Or waiting until Feb and taking a mini-moon somewhere like Lake Tahoe or Sonoma!

I’m looking at all 3 places. Can I ask how you booked?

Hey! Yah, we booked at Divi All Inclusive Villas. It is part of a property that is connect to 2 other all inclusive resorts (there’s a shuttle that goes between the resorts). If you get the all inclusive option, you can use it all 3 resorts! So like 13 restaurants, a bunch of bars, etc. The villas are the cheapest of the three proprieties because it’s not directly on the beach like the other two ( but it saved us at least $1000. We booked through Travelocity and got 7 nights all inclusive with flights for $3300 plus tax and trip insurance so it came out to $3700!
