Honeymoon in June - Mexico or Greece?

We've been looking at all-inclusive, adult-only resorts in Mexico (Playa del Carmen, mostly) but the other day I found an all-inclusive in northern Greece...now I can't decide!!! I've been to Greece, to the area the resort is in, and it's BEAUTIFUL, but I've never been to Mexico. FH has been to Mexico, but he's never been to Greece lol.

We are looking at the Paradisus Resort - La Perla in Mexico: https://www1.melia.com/en/hotels/mexico/playa-del-carmen/

I priced them out, here's the difference...

Greece would be $2895 for 7 nights, all-inclusive. The round trip flight would be about $2439 for both of us. Total $5334, not including a little detour I'd want to take in Thessaloniki!

Mexico would be $3664 for 7 nights, all inclusive, and the flight would be about $1000. Total $4664.

So for less than $1k more, we could go to Greece...what would you do???

    So I wanted to edit my OP but I got cut off...

    I think a big reason FH is hesitant about Greece is because I lived there for a while, and dated a Greek guy who lives in northern Greece. It's been YEARS since, and he's always been receptive to going there and meeting him and my friends that I met there. But now it seems to be taking some convincing. I would want to stop in Thessaloniki to show him where I lived, take him to some of my favorite spots, and meet my friends - we'd be there for maybe a day - then off to the resort. So...would this change your mind?

    Im with MeettheBrowns. I would love to go to Greece, but I wouldnt have FH meet my ex on our honeymoon. Wrong time to say "here, meet my past" lol

    @MeettheBrowns I thought of that. But the chances of going back there again anytime soon are slim, and it would be like going to a city that you had friends in and not telling them, only for them to find out later. I'm still in contact with them and they all have asked to meet FH. It would be about 5 or 6 people, not just the ex lol. Who, btw, was also a client of ours with our first business...

    Ugh this is so hard. I know if we go we should not involve anyone else. I guess we'll have to plan a second trip! And bring the kids :-)

    LOL MizzzCara... I knew this was going to be an issue with that location. dammit!

    Ok, let's just re-set and take out the whole part about meeting ANYONE, friend or ex or otherwise. Maybe we'll take a detour in Thessaloniki, but it will just be the two of us. Or maybe not. Are we still for Greece?

    One of my coworkers went to paradisus la perla for his honeymoon in June 2015 and he still raves about it. Like to the point that his wife has told him (jokingly of course) that he doesn't get a referral fee if he convinces people to go. He's said so many good things that FH and I are considering it even though Mexico was originally not on our radar at all!
