Honeymoon in Bora Bora tips?

Emily, on February 15, 2021 at 11:12 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

Hi everyone! It's been our dream for several years to honeymoon in Bora Bora. Does anyone have any tips for planning, saving, etc. for a trip to Bora Bora?

We're getting married in August 2022, so hoping international travel will be back to normal by that time!

Costco has good deals on bora bora and other French polynesian islands! It’s so very expensive so I would definitely start saving now. Take a look at hotels you’d like/travel deals to get an idea of how much it would cost and then save every month to meet that goal

Thx for the info! We’re going to Jamaica to a Sandals resort & it took some time to pay it off...

It’s very very expensive. One of the most expensive destinations and lodging. I looked into a honeymoon and it was coming out to around $15k for a week.

Make sure to start saving up, because it's super expensive. Also make sure to set aside more time than usual for your honeymoon. Flying there from the US usually takes over 24 hours and then you'll be jet-lagged.

Definitely! That’s why we want to go for our honeymoon - we wouldn’t pay that much to take a family vacation there in the future haha.

Was it over 24 hours from the west coast or east coast?

I haven't actually been there, my best friend went for her honeymoon. She flew from New York and travel time was 28 hours because they don't have direct flights. If you're coming from the west coast, I'd imagine you would save a few hours but I'd still plan for around 24 hour travel time depending on what flights you can find. She had an amazing time though! But I'd definitely factor in the travel time and would probably stay for 10 days instead of just a week (if you can swing it) to make the long travel time worth it.

This too is my dream honeymoon. Its an 8 hour flight from Los Angeles. And have also been told to check Costco for pricing. Plan on doing this trip for our first year anniversary so we don't have to worry and possible closures and rescheduling.

I love that idea! When are you getting married?

We live in Portland so I can guess our flight time would be about the same. It was only about 5 hours to Hawaii.

FH really wants to go to Bora Bora and we'd looked at it for a potential honeymoon spot. Definitely can't afford it at this time and since our wedding is in just over 2 months travel restrictions and all that will still be in place. So we're planning to save up and go for probably our 10th anniversary. Anyway, just wanted to chime in with that!

I love that for you! Maybe you could even go for your 5th anniversary! I realized I said that we want to go in August but we’re planning to get married in August 2022 then hopefully go in October or November 2022 if all is well with international travel.

Where did you decide to go for your honeymoon instead (if you’re still going somewhere)?

Thanks! Our 5th anniversary plan is to go to Molokai, HI. That's what we were trying to do for our honeymoon, but with travel restrictions being what they are and neither of us being able to take an extra 2 weeks off after the honeymoon to quarantine... We're now renting a cabin at Big Bear Lake in CA. We live in CA, so no quarantine needed. Big Bear is about 5 hours away, so we'll be driving there 2 days after the wedding (Monday). There are plenty of hiking trails and the cabin has a hot tub, grill, and kayak for use at the lake. There's also quite a few good local eateries that we're excited to check out. We kind of figured that after the craziness of planning and executing the wedding we'd like something just relaxing and with no pressure to go do specific things at certain times.

I'm sure Bora Bora will be absolutely wonderful in October or November! Shouldn't be too hot and you likely won't have to worry too much about rain. I'm really hoping and praying all the travel stuff gets figured out soon. It's so hard to hear of someone's lifelong honeymoon dreams being shot because of this. And COVID just sucks in general, so there's that...
