Honeymoon ideas

Eryn, on July 14, 2020 at 9:56 PM Posted in Colorado Planning 0 7

Our planned honeymoon in Hawaii of course fell through with the current COVID restrictions. We are having our wedding in the Fort Collins area. any ideas for a honeymoon in Colorado? We both love hiking but I would love to have some aspect of relaxation to make it feel a little different/special from a regular hiking trip. Nothing too expensive either.

Have you visited the sights in CO before? The hot springs are always great (Steamboat, Pagosa, Glenwood, depends on where else you want to go) and RMNP isn’t far from Fort Collins. It depends on what most interests the two of you. Things like hiking that you might have done in HI you can still do here in CO. What interests the two of you, maybe I can give more specific recommendations.

I was definitely considering Steamboat as a destination. I haven’t been up there yet. It appealed because I didn’t JUST want to go hiking and that’s it- for example if we went to Arches In Utah. We definitely love hiking, but I would like some relaxing element. Just something a little more so I feel like I’m on a honeymoon vs just a hiking trip. I guess I can’t be too picky though! I’m also looking for accommodations that aren’t super expensive (will have to fight to get our flights refunded and will probably lose our deposit for the honeymoon). We’re both animal lovers.. I train horses back home and have a few rescues that I’m working with. I don’t know what will be open, but nothing will probably be as bad as LA (where we live currently).

Nice, I love the Poudre canyon!
I’ve only been to Steamboat once, but the drive from Fort Collins out to Steamboat was beautiful! I totally understand not just wanting to hike, the hot springs would be good for relaxation, and maybe book a couples massage or some other spa treatments. They also have zip lining and a mountain roller coaster, and I know they have horseback tours.
This is totally a bucket list item for me, but I’ve always thought a hot air balloon ride would be amazing. We usually go up to Breckenridge area. An advantage of picking somewhere off the I-70 corridor is you can still find all the same activities and you could spend a day venturing a little further west to Palisade area for wine tasting and peaches (though the crops got badly damaged this year by a late frost ☹️), or into Denver for a day in the city. I’m not sure how we’re going to look in a month, no one really is of course, but cultural stuff in Denver is reopened if you would enjoy going to museums, the botanical gardens, etc. My FH and I cant really take a big honeymoon trip this year, but we’re talking about taking a short road trip to the Great Sand Dunes, Bishops Castle, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

Go to Paonia!!! You are right next to Black Canyon of the Gunnison which has some hiking and is really cool. Paonia itself is full of little wineries that you can hop around (you do have to drive to each one but they are very close to each other) and do free tastings. The last time I was there we camped at Big Bee’s apple orchard (there are some inns - I’d probably suggest an Air BNB or something like that).

Our honeymoon is scheduled for Costa Rica at the beginning of December this year, but if they dont open up to US travellers, we have Cozumel, Mexico as our back-up.
