Honeymoon ideas without flying

Event Lady, on September 12, 2013 at 3:59 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

So my fiance does not want to fly anywhere because it hurt his ears last time and he lost some hearing...whatever. So what can we do that doesn't involve flying anywhere. Cruise? Florida? We live in MD. I like the idea of a cruise or renting an apartment on the beach in FL and both of these options can be affordable. Has anyone else had this situation or had a honeymoon without flying anywhere?

Sometimes we drive to the most rural part of the island where there's no cell service or internet, rent a rickety cabin for $75/night, and just hang out for a few days. we ALWAYS have a blast just being away from everything.

I would either stay at the fanciest resort in the state, go to the most rural part and rent a little place, OR take a road trip.

I hate flying, but I'm doing it anyway for our honeymoon. I just wanted to come by and throw in some suggestions for you from your area. You can drive to Florida, just will be a long drive. How far are you willing to go?

    Other beach ideas:

    Outer Banks, NC

    Myrtle Beach, SC

    Edisto Beach, SC

Ideas that are not beaches but are very nice:

Massanutten resort in McGaheysville, VA (right off Skyline Drive)

    Williamsburg, VA area

Smoky Mountains area, TN (Sevierville, Gatlinburg)

Bermuda - cruises leave out of Baltimore.

There are tons of driveable destinations from Maryland. All depends on what you want to do.

We're flying for our honeymoon, but we take roadtrips all the time.

How about the florida keys I went there once and it was wonderful I stayed in the upper keys then drove to Key west. It was beautiful felt like I was on an island w/o going to one. So much fresh seafood, beautiful waters.

Or come on up to NYC (I am bias since I live here) come up and enjoy it like you usually wouldnt ie splurge on a fancy luxury hotel (Mandarin Hotel or one of the Trump buildings) go to a fancy fancy resturant and take in a few plays

There are many cruises that leave out of MD! If we take a cruise we would leave out of there and we live in NC. FH hates flying too!

We're flying but there are tons of options out there. We regularly take 8hr trips so my suggestions may be a far drive, but Niagara Falls, Quebec City, Smoky Mtns, the Keys would be a very long drive, NOLA

We live in Alexandria, VA, and are going to Ashville, NC for a few days. We just did a big trip in May, so we aren't doing a big honeymoon. But we also looked at renting a house in the Outerbanks etc...

I like all of your ideas! My parents have a rental cottage in northern Michigan. Our wedding is in April, but we could postpone the honeymoon until July and go to the bay cottage then for a bit of a discount. We shall see!

Has he thought about seeing a doctor about that problem? Maybe it can be fixed? Otherwise, there are a ton of great options within a (longish) drive

We live in Sarasota, FL (beautiful vacation, honeymoon, destination wedding spot), but honeymooned in the mountains of NC in Oct. & got to see the leaves change colors (they don't where we live).

I love a road trip so that might be an idea. Or how about a train trip? Am sure there are beautiful spots near you that you could drive or clickety clack to?

We live in Boston and are considering doing a two-part honeymoon. We REALLY want to go somewhere like Aruba, but we won't be able to afford it right after the wedding.

So we're probably going to rent a hotel room in Boston for several nights and just do nothing except order room service, swim in the hotel pool, and, ah, enjoy each other's company Smiley smile

I HATE FLYING!!!!! I actually need a couple drinks or a couple pills to even get on the plane, and then im still freaked out!

I want to go to so many places....one day Smiley sad

We are taking a Cruise out of Baltimore for the honeymoon. I have always loved cruises and the open water so im A-okay with that!

only problem i have found with going out of Baltimore ( and this is going to depend on where you want the ports to be) is that to get to the Caribbean, its going to be at least a 10 day cruise.

I'm from Miami,Fl...I have taken the 24-hr drive and train ride a zillion times in my life. its terrible. would i do it again? heck yeah! but not on my honeymoon.

There are a LOT of cruise lines that leave from Bayonne and NYC now. One of my officiants married a couple in Brooklyn this weekend, and the stream of ocean liners was a real part of the scenery. That would be the best of all worlds; a couple of days in NYC and then a cruise! I LOVE IT!

We are in the same boat. I will check our Sarasota, FL. But, I saw Myrtle Beach mentioned. As a resident of South Carolina, I beg you, don't go to myrtle beach. We have gorgeous beaches (isle of palms, Hilton head, Editso) and would live for you to visit our state, but MB is tacky and full of tourists. When I lived outside of DC and people would see my SC license, they would say ohhh, I love going to Myrtle Beach. My rude response was "yeah....that's why we don't go there anymore!"

Another SC girl here....yyeeaa...I'd avoid Myrtle for your honeymoon.... Depending on the time of year it can be...ok. If you're into binge drinking high school and college kids, and yucky over populated beaches, GO for it! haha But as Gamecox said...Hilton Head and Edisto are some of my faves, and Fripp Island is great!! not a stitch of "touristy" stuff and it's got beach, marsh, trails, everything! There aren't any hotels there, it's only home rentals. Some are crazy lavish and some are affordable. If you don't mind not being ON the beach, most houses include a golf cart in the rental (the only way every gets around on the island!)
