honeymoon...hot or cold?

Carly, on November 22, 2011 at 1:51 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 24

FH and I have been talking about honeymoon stuff lately. we dont really want to spend major $$$ on it. and he told me he wants to go somewhere cold. which is okay with me i told him, as long as we dont have to fly. lol. we were thinking about renting a cabin in the mountains in colorado or montana or something like that. i think it would be super romantic! just wondered if any of you girls or guys are going somewhere warm or cold for your honeymoon? i am open to suggestions on places to go!

I live in Colorado...So going to the mountains is not that big a deal for me. Nice but not special. I am going to a beach cause i love warm weather and plus i have never had a beach wedding and feel i deserve one.

I live in IL so there really isnt anything exciting here...lol. so mountains or beach would have been fine with me. but neither one of us has been farther west than missouri...so we thought it might be an awesome way to see more of the country. i am just kinda worried about going to colorado or somewhere like that in oct. doesnt it start snowing there around then? lol...i have no clue.

We live in Indiana, so we are used to experiencing cold and hot, but we both love the beach. We are going to Jamaica for that reason. However, I think a cabin in the mountains could be romantic. Maybe you could go skiing or snowboarding!

I'm in Nova Scotia, our winters are long enough that I wouldn't choose a cold destination. We went to Aruba, it was so much fun.

I don't know what the weather is like in vegas around November, but that's where we're planning on going. We have always talked about going there, I really hope that Vegas is our final decision!

I live in the northeast and even though I'm from an island, we have to go somewhere with some palm trees and sand to think we're really on vacation...

I hate cold weather. I live in Houston, which is HOT and I prefer it that way. We are doing a delayed honeymoon in July to Costa Rica!!

I would've loved to get a cabin in the mountains, though w/ it being winter, we didn't want to take a chance getting stuck somewhere, or not being able to drive to whatever cabin we rented. Though, I do love the idea of snuggling up by the fireplace when it's cold outside! Smiley winking

But - we ended up going the hot route - we're going on a cruise to Mexico b/c we found a great deal w/in our puny budget. We love that we'll get to relax and literally not have to think even about when to eat dinner. Smiley smile

I live in Fl and its always hot here so we went cold! We went to Gatlinburg,TN for ours (its about the same amount of drive time I think for you and I, you from IL me from FL) Our budget was $2k, and we were under. We stayed in a cabin and dined out alot. Most of the stuff there is quite cheep. ($15 a person for cabin tours, $25 for an hour horseback ride in smokey mountains national park) The most expensive thing was the cabin but at $500-$600 for 5 nights wasnt bad at all.

@Carly...I am confused. I thought you said you wanted some place cold, but you are worried about snow? Yes there is a possibility of snow in October....but don't worry about it ruining the honeymoon. The weather in Colorado is awesome. It will be warm the day before (in the 60's) and then snow up to a foot the next day. Then the next day it will have all melted and your back to wearing a light jacket. We get snow but don't have to worry about it being there day after day after day. : ) If you come here i hope you like it. It is beautiful here in Colorado.

Side note. I live in the Springs...not in the actual mountains...I imagine that you will being honeymooning in the actual mountains. The weather is probably a little colder and snowier there but in October it should still be fine.

Another side note. When you fly in..stay in town overnight before driving up to the mountains. You don't want to go from close to sea level to 10K feet above sea-level in a few hours. Your body will react badly and you will more than likely be sick the first night of your honeymoon. Not fun. I have heard of people actually having to go to the hospital and one case of actual death from such a situation.

We're doing our mini-moon in Maine in January (COLD).... then our honeymoon in Italy in April... so temperate? We were originally planning Aruba (HOT) but decided this was our one big chance to take the trip of our dreams to Italy. We can always go on a beach vacation, those are *relatively* inexpensive.

Anyway, I think a cold honeymoon will be romantic! Smiley laugh

We went to a warm place...Mexico. But I highly recommend Colorado. I'm from here and I'll tell ya what...by far one of the most beautiful places I've been. I can't imagine living any place else. If you're planning on honeymooning right after your wedding...weather will be perfect here! In the mountains, it will be slightly chilly, especially at night. Do you know where you'd plan on going in the Mountains if you were to come to Colorado? There are a ton of beautiful mountain resorts...I'd be happy to recommend some to you. You could even potentially honeymoon in Boulder (this is where my BFF and her hubby went for theirs) and then you could take a day trip to Denver. October in Colorado is GORGEOUS! My wedding day was literally 68 degrees!! perfect!

I want to go to a warm place....I live in the mountains of Colorado and it is gorgeous but the weather is very unpredictable. If you are not scared of being outside in a light jacket one day and shoveling a foot of snow the next then this is your place. It is always an adventure. I have lived here for 28 years and wouldn't change it for the world. Right now, noon, it is 45 degrees out and so nice! We don't have much snow on the ground, actually not any except on the north side of buildings. I have heard many people say once they vacation in Colorado, they are hooked and come back year after year!

I have to add that is from mid- September to mid - April. The summers here are also to die for.......
