Honeymoon- Greece or Thailand

Jamie, on October 9, 2017 at 10:38 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

I am getting married in June of 2018 and am planning my honeymoon from 6/22-7/8. We are planning to go to Greece for 8 days, then 3 days in Austria and 4 in Switzerland.

I would love to go to Thailand and Cambodia, but I was originally deterred because May-November is rainy season. I was looking online and I was seeing a lot of people saying that the monsoon weather really isn't until late summer and September. Is late June/early July a bad time to visit? There are so many outdoor sights we want to see and I don't want constant rain to ruin that. Any advice you could give?

I would do Greece, Austria, and Switzerland in June rather than Cambodia and Thailand. Summer is a great season to visit Northern Europe. And, yes, although monsoon season usually starts in September and October in Southeast Asia (I am from Vietnam and used to live in Northern Thailand and Cambodia), cooler months to visit would be our Spring, February-April. Just a thought.

I went to Greece in May and we melted. If I were you, I'd go to the U.K.

I am really leaning more towards Thailand and Cambodia. In Greece the plan was 2 nights in Athens, 3 nights in Paros and 3 nights in Santorini.

I've spent a lot of time in Europe and only been to Asia once to Vietnam and it was an incredible experience. We are in our mid 30's and will want to start a family in a few years, so I really want to do something more adventurous. I'm less concerned with the heat and more concerned with potential rain.

Honestly, that is so much in such a short time.. I went to Australia for 6 weeks 2 years ago and I still thought I didn't have enough time. I think you should stick to just one or two countries. We are also doing Italy and Greece for our honeymoon!

Are you saying Thailand and Cambodia is too much? In Cambodia we only intend on seeing Angkor Wat which can be done in a few days. I did Vietnam in 9 days and felt it was easily enough time.

I visited Cambodia last year at the start of July. There was a lot of rain and flash flooding but it was fun as long as you don't mind getting wet. If you're only visiting Siem Reap you only really need 2 days, 3 days max. Not the most romantic place for a honeymoon though.

Thailand is more popular and doesn't seem as wet but if you go be prepared for rain

We are going to Thailand and Japan in December. Thailand is in general in rainy season during the May/June, but in the islands of Thailand you will get a different timed rainy season whether you go to the gulf or Indian Ocean side- so one side should be ok during that time, but may not be where you want to go. It will be hot and humid everywhere though.

If you really want to go to Thailand, but are concerned about the weather, you could always postpone the honeymoon by a few months. Many couples don't take a honeymoon immediately after the wedding for a variety of reasons.

We went to Greece for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing!!!!! We went to Oia on the island of Santorini, Naxos, and Athens. Although, I'd swap Athens for another island unless your a huge history buff.

For those pointing out that Greece will be blistering hot during that time--so will Thailand, and even more so. This year it was in the high 90s at the end of June in Chang Mai (just picked a city at random since I don't know where you would be going specifically.) Athens was "only" in the upper 80s. Is that really something you could enjoy? I could not, personally. I adore Greece and I really, really want to go to Thailand, but at that time of year I would choose to go elsewhere.

Thanks All. I actually have decided to either go with Bali or an Ko Samui on Thailands Gulf Coast since I hear it is dry season then.

I've done Europe so many times, and want something farther away and more exotic.

Also, heat and humidity don't phase me. I live in Manhattan and am used to disgusting humidity in the summer.
