Honeymoon Frustration

Courtney, on August 4, 2019 at 10:20 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
I've posted a lot on here in recent days about places to go on a honeymoon. I guess it is what I am focused on right now. Our wedding is in 8 months and we have the venue, they do the food, I've got my dress, going in a couple weeks to look at BM dresses. Going on the 18th for a cake tasting. My aunt is doing the flowers and she said she had a big wedding to do at beginning of August so I'm not bothering her right now. I just don't know what I am suppose to do wedding wise right now so I've been looking at honeymoon locations. I know traditionally this is suppose to be FH's responsibility, but I'm just trying to get some ideas.

I talked to him last night about Florida and a cruise. I told him I really wanted to go somewhere other than Florida because we can go there all the time based on where we live. After contemplating a cruise, I dont know if it would be the best idea because we've both never been. I dont want to spend our honeymoon with us sick or crammed in with a lot of people.

So then I mentioned some US destinations..... I mentioned Colorado Springs and the Grand Canyon. I've also discovered Lake Tahoe. The flights to all 3 of these locations are cheap at the end of May which is when we would go because I'm a teacher and can't really take off a whole week during April. Any other suggestions? Having never been to that side of the country, we are both lost with places to go and things to do.

My FH is a veteran with a back injury that prevents him from doing certain outdoor things like hiking for long distances. I mentioned white water rafting in Colorado Springs and that might be too rough on his back as well. Its something we've both never done before.

His thought process is we have plenty of time to decide, but I guess I am a Type A personality and a planner. I am feeling overwhelmed that the wedding is in 8 months and while we have a lot done, there is still a lot to do. We haven't even taken engagement pictures yet.

At this point though, I am ready to put a bunch of different locations in a hat or throw a dart at a map to choose the honeymoon location 😂. I don't want to be responsible for choosing it all on my own as like a place that I want to go.

Colorado Springs has tons of summer activities that are fun. Also, if you rent a car, Denver is an easy drive from CS and has lots of fun things to do as well.

I totally get where you’re coming from! Especially as a fellow teacher! I wanted to get as much as possible done before the school year starts, because as I know you’re aware, it gets CRAZY!

When coming up with ideas for our honeymoon, I made lists. I made a list of what each of us wanted in a honeymoon. I made a list of places we might want to go. And I made a list of dealbreakers for each of us. See if your FH is willing to contribute to a list (I made mine while my FH was playing video games and a somewhat captive audience). Once you have the lists, doing research will be so much easier and then you can present your ideas to him and start a discussion that way.

I wanted to do Disney, but we both wanted something more relaxed. We did end up deciding on a cruise, which we’re both really excited about!

Tennessee is beautiful. One of my friends had their honeymoon in pigeon forge tennessee where dollywood and paula deans restaurant is. Not sure if that's something you would be in to. We are having our honeymoon on the coast of nc since my parents are renting a house for a week that we are using for the reception as well. Make a list of places you want to visit and things you would like to do then get him to do the same

We are doing a cruise. I plan to get prescription medication for sea sickness. But we are doing a private mini moon right after wedding. Cruise is in April or May.

For that side of the country I would do Las Vegas and Grand Canyon in one trip (4 hours away). Las Vegas also has the hoover dam which is beautiful, and the view of the Grand Canyon can be romantic.

I’m not much of an outdoorsy person so for the Grand Canyon we did a Jeep tour that took us to all of the best spots to take pictures. Las Vegas of course is fun and there are a ton of shows to visit. The Hoover Dam is really close to Vegas and is breathtaking, pictures don’t do it justice. The weather will be nice during that time as well.

Yes exactly! I feel like I need to be doing something to prepare for everything because I know I'm going to blink and it will be Christmas before I know it.

I'm looking back into Florida because that is where FH has wanted to go since the very beginning. He wants to go swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove and thought about checking out a couple days at Disney. We will see.

I would plan sooner rather than later so you can budget appropriately. If you don't mind sharing, what is your budget? How long are you hoping to go for? What are you looking for on a honeymoon (beach time, pool time, activities, museums, etc.)?

We were looking to go for a week possibly 6 or 7 nights. We could go during the week and I know that could possibly be cheaper. I really don't want us spending more than $2000 to $2500. I'm not really sure what we necessarily "want". We live both close to the beaches in Alabama and Florida and the mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina.
