Honeymoon for Animal Lovers? Costa Rica?

Karissa, on July 22, 2019 at 7:59 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

HELP! I have no idea where to go on a honeymoon after our April 24th wedding (2020). We LOVE animals, so hoping to find a place that would involve them somehow. I have heard that Costa Rica is amazing... or the Galapagos Islands. Any advice? Extra points if I get to "hold" or "pet" the animals!!!! (It would be a bucket list item to hold a sloth... or a koala bear...)

Australia sounds like a great option for you guys if you are up for a longer flight! The Whitsundays are AMAZING and there are so many wildlife conservation centers all over Aus! I held a sloth and hung out with kangaroos and all other fun animals while visiting. Plus have you seen photos of a quokka? That's reason alone in my book haha.

Hey Karissa!! Congratulations on your engagement!! How exciting to be planning your honeymoon! Are there are places that you are leaning towards for your honeymoon?

How long are you willing to travel for your honeymoon? As the pp mentioned, Australia could be an amazing option for you.

As soon as you mentioned your love of animals, I immediately thought of the swimming pigs in The Bahamas! I think that it looks so amazing!!

The Galapagos Islands would be a once in a lifetime trip and would definitely check your animal box.

Depending on how exotic you are willing to go, you could look into traveling to Indonesia and Malaysia to see the orangutans!!!

Hi McKenzie! Thanks for your post! I've never flown over the ocean before, so I'm already prepared to have them "knock me out". I'm not good at staying idle or sitting for long periods of time. I will have to look up a quokka, never heard of it! We typically like "green space", but I will have to look into Australia!

    Hi there, and thank you!

Well, we are leaning towards Costa Rica because that is the only thing we have really looked at so far. I am not excited about flying over a body of water... so the shorter the better, but if I am able to sleep that might make it easier on me.

Swimming pigs?? That does sound interesting!

As long as the country has people that speak English, I am open! Unfortunately I cannot speak spanish (he can, slightly) but I want to make sure that we can get around easily, and that we will be safe.

I'm half Costa Rican and been there many times as a child... I would totally go there! It's such a beautiful country. We almost went there but we wanted to go somewhere neither of us have been before.

Guanacaste is one of my favorite regions. They have tons of animal excursions and all inclusive resorts.

I have not! I've actually never been out of the country (I've been all over within the US, but not outside of it), so I really want to pick a place that we can both relax and have some adventure. Oh - and "meet" some cute animals too.

Thank you for the information! Do you suggest staying away from any areas? Using a travel agency? Doing any particular things?

I don't think there is a specific area to really avoid. It's not a high crime country. I'd just make sure you don't bring super expensive stuff. What I've heard is theft is probably the worst thing you'd encounter. You don't have to use a travel agency in my opinion. You can do a lot online and read customer reviews and all that. If you're on a resort it's typically all inclusive.

I'd personally say go see the volcanoes and waterfalls in that region. They will take your breath away!
