Honeymoon Excitement

Allie, on March 9, 2021 at 9:05 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

GUYS. I've already spazzed on all of my friends and family about this and nobody is as excited as I am of course, so I'm going to spazz here too!

We have our honeymoon booked and WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD! After a lot of thinking and going back and forth and our first honeymoon plan being ruined due to Covid, I'm SO excited to have this to look forward to. Last year was really hard and I lost my job, we were struggling to pay normal bills, never mind wedding expenses, so we didn't think we'd be able to take a honeymoon at all or if we did, it would be somewhere fairly close to home. That all changed in 2021. Both my FH and I got new jobs that came with HUGE raises. And we are hoping this virus stuff starts to really go down by November, which I have some high hopes for. SO I'm excited!

For you Disney honeymooners or overall Disney freaks like myself, what are some of your must do spots there? I've been there a million times, but I know something is always missed and this time will be different since it's our honeymoon.

For you non-Disney honeymooners but people just excited for their honeymoon, what do you have planned if anything?

I’m not super obsessed with Disney but have gone a couple of times. Absolutely take one day to go around Epcot and drink/eat around the world. You can get different little foods and drinks at each country and it’s just super fun to explore! It’s not cheap but I’d definitely put aside some money in your budget to do that, especially if you like to try new foods.
November is also a great month to go to Florida, if possible I would go before thanksgiving break so there are fewer people.
It looks like Epcot might have the Food and Wine festival until November 25 and that just means there are more options for food and drinks there! We plan on going to Fiji, as long as borders open by September

Congratulations! I love Disney so much and had my bachelorette there! If you've been a ton of times, I'd recommend the following to differentiate from your past trips:

    - Definitely stay at one of the deluxe resorts! For honeymooners, I'd recommend the Grand Floridian or the Boardwalk.

    - Do a spa experience (couple's massage maybe?) at the Grand Floridian or Mandara Spa at the Dolphin.

    - Plan a few days to sleep in, get room service, enjoy the resort amenities.

    - Plan an evening in Disney Springs for a great dinner/drinks experience. I highly recommend Morimoto Asia and STK.

Otherwise, I'd just plan your days as you normally would, enjoying the parks!

We stayed at the Boardwalk for our 3 day mini moon! We didn’t visit any parks except we spent 1 morning at Universal.
We booked a nice dinner at Yatchmans steakhouse (not currently open, boo!). We also did a character breakfast for a Disney touch since we didn’t do parks (1900 Park Fare. So good but also not currently open). I’ve heard Shulas at Swan and Dolphin is a good nice dinner. As is California Grill or Narcoosees (I think that’s open. Maybe Citricos).
We walked around the boardwalk area, shopped, people watched, enjoyed being together. It was nice, leisurely, and relaxing. We also spent time in the hot tub and relaxing watching movies in the room and ordered pizza to be delivered. It was so nice to be at Disney and be able to relax and enjoy it. Especially after the stress the last few weeks of wedding planning. We looked into couples massages and they were reasonably priced but none fit our schedule (with our reservations and universal there wasn’t time 😞)Put it’s your honeymoon on your reservation and get some buttons. You never know what kind of pixidust you might get. And don’t forget down time. Disney is exhausting and you don’t want to spend your honeymoon exhausted! We got engaged there and took one of the backstage tours. That was a lot of fun and is a splurge/something not typically done. Feel free to ask any questions.

Oh yes! We are going November 14-20th so we will be right before Thanksgiving. Epcot food is definitely a MUST on my list, last time we went to Epcot my FH didn't really love it, but we also didn't really eat there, and he's a big foodie. So I'm hoping to go with a bigger appetite and at least do a dinner there.

Hoping that the borders open so you are able to go! It's been a struggle this year, our original plan was to do a cruise to Alaska, but I just don't feel comfortable getting on a cruise ship right now. I want to give it time.

Thank you! I LOVE the spa day idea! I actually looked into the Grand Floridian! My FH wanted to stay there but we decided to go a notch down and maybe visit for dinner there or the spa idea! We are going to stay at Coronado Springs.

I'm keeping those restaurants in mind, that's the one thing I feel like we always gravitate back to, the same restaurants we've been to before. We've never been to either of those, so definitely worth checking out. Thank you!

I LOVE the Boardwalk. As a kid, my parents used to always take me there even though we weren't staying and we could honestly spend an entire day there. So we will definitely be trying to go there for a visit.

There are a lot of things closed right now, hoping maybe that'll change by the time we go. My uncle actually works for Disney, so we are going through booking things with him (hellooooo discounts!) and even the workers said they're hoping things are more normal and open by then!

My FH loves massages, so I think that's an absolute must for him. We are also doing some time in Universal because my FH isn't a huge Disney fan like I am, so I'm looking forward to going there as well. But it'll be a lot, so we will definitely plan a day for relaxation.

And of course...I'm PLASTERING it everywhere to anyone who will ask that we are on our honeymoon to try to see what we can get! Smiley xd

What a great choice! So happy everything ended up working out for you and your fiancé!!! You will have the best time at Disney! I love Disney and it’s always a guaranteed good time. Another tip is to make sure you mention that you are on your honeymoon while you are on property as you may get extra incentives ☺️

    We did Disney World!!

Tell them it's your honeymoon. You'll get BIG pins, and any cast member who sees them is supposed to congratulate you, and sometimes you even get free dessert or something like that. At Epcot, DH even tried some sake at the Japanese pavilion, and the sweet woman working there wrote a Japanese blessing on his glass! (We totally saved it.)

Don't rent a car - just use the buses, they are pretty reliable and much easier to deal with than parking.

If you are staying on site (you should), totally take advantage of the system they have of sending your purchases back to your hotel. It's so much easier than carrying stuff around all day!

Oh! Buy a snack at breakfast and take it into the park. I made a habit of buying some fruit to stash in my bag. Came in handy if I got hungry between fast passes.

Don't try to jam pack your day - too much stuff to do, you'll never get it all done, anyway. Pick your MUST haves, target those, and then keep an eye on wait times for your "oh, those would be cool".

We only did one day at Epcot, and next time we go... I'm going to splurge for 2. It's a big park - only half of which is the World Showcase! We didn't even get past Germany!

Oh, and remember that you can hand cast members your phone to take the pictures, instead of having to buy from them!

I was secretly waiting for you to see this and give tips Smiley xd because I saw that's where you went in an older post!

We are totally taking advantage of the transportation they have, especially since it's the last year for Magical Express! FH is insisting we also go to Universal, so we planned on just doing an Uber there. We are staying at Coronado Springs! Wanted to splurge for more, but ultimately decided against it for now because we know ALL the resorts are gorgeous.

I've actually NEVER even known about the purchase program, so we will be taking full advantage of that. Thank you for sharing that! I've already looked into the food options because my FH eats and eats and eats, so snacks will be a must.

I'm hoping to get some honeymoon perks, so I'm glad to know that if i announce it, it will probably be rewarded at least with some extra special attention! I'm so excited. I literally cannot wait.

Thank you for all the tips!

I don't understand how they are getting rid of the Magical Express! I hope they replace it with something.

We used Lyft to get to Universal from our Disney resort - just make sure to have your magic band - they'll get stopped on the way back in to drop you off, and if you flash your band, it'll be fine.

The purchase program is two-fold - either have it sent to your hotel (may get there the next day, depending on when you buy), or to the gate of the park, so you can pick it up on the way out. Very useful!

We didn't even splurge, we did All Star Sports (to be fair, ENTIRELY appropriate for the two of us) .... oh, another useful tip - check to see if the resort's cafeteria has a microwave. We had some leftovers from the Italian Pavilion, and had them after a day at Universal (Universal's food is, um. Well. It's not Disney food.), so you can save a bit of money that way!

I hope they replace it too, I guess Mears was the company that did the Magical Express and they broke their contract together. It stinks though, it's such a great perk!

Apparently they've updated things so you don't need Magic bands anymore! Everything is done through your phone...unless of course you want to use a magic band, then you can. I'm trying to decided what to do with FH, I can see him getting annoyed with downloading an app but I don't know if he would rather wear the magic band and he won't give me a straight answer of course!

I usually do All Star as well, because I mean let's be real, they're all beautiful resorts. We just decided to splurge a bit to cut back on the possible amount of kids because I know a lot of families stay at the All Star resorts. Great tip about the microwave! I will absolutely check that! Thank you!

Make sure you take a day to just relax and enjoy the resort. Your feet will thank you! If you eat dinner at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts try to book it an hour and a 1/2 before fireworks (if they are doing them again) the resort will allow you to take a glass of wine or champagne onto a private balcony or deck to watch. We went to Narcoosees at the Grand Floridian for our "special honeymoon dinner" and they were awesome. We told them it was our honeymoon and they brought out a special dessert with champagne which we were allowed to take outside on the balcony. Book a special tour if you have time, and if you have a down day or a really rainy day use the monorail to resort hop. We went from resort to resort ordering a drink or appetizer at each one and buying souvenirs. We also took in a dinner show, Hoop Dee Doo at Fort Wilderness is hilarious and Spirit of Aloha at the Polynesian is fun and romantic. Oh and if you are Haunted Mansion fans I highly recommend you get your portraits done at Momento Mori.

The food and wine festival is incredible. It's worth staying for lunch and dinner. It's pretty affordable and you get to eat and drink small plates from every country--amazing!
