Honeymoon cruise

Maegan, on May 15, 2019 at 7:14 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
Hello,

We have finally decided what to do for our honeymoon however our wedding is almost 2 months away. We wanted to do a cruise from US to Canada and Alaska. I'm not sure how to or if it's possible to get a passport right after my wedding in order to go to Canada. I will be changing my last name, but right now when applying for passport I have to use my current last name. Not sure if this will affect things as far as going the day after our wedding being that I will be changing my name.

Help please.
Thanks

Make all your travel plans/reservations in your maiden name and plan on using that for your honeymoon. It will take a while to do the legal name change. The good news is with a passport, if you change your name within 1 year of the original issuing date, you can change your name on your passport without having to pay again (or you pay a reduced fee). Have a great trip!

Hi Maegan! Your honeymoon sounds amazing! Alaska looks like such a beautiful state!!

As the PP suggested, book your honeymoon in your maiden name and then there should be no issue with your passport. Changing your name after marriage doesn’t happen instantaneously so by using your maiden name, everything should run smoothly!

How long will your honeymoon be?

I am also taking a cruise. My wedding is in 3 months. There is 2 weeks between my wedding and honeymoon, but I will not be changing my name until after we get back so that there are no issues with travel.

How long after your wedding would you be going to Canada? If you're going right after then the passport with your maiden name will be fine because you're name wont be changed immediately after the wedding.

My FH and I are going to the Bahamas on a cruise for our honeymoon right after our wedding and my passport as well as all our travel tickets will still have my maiden name because as I said name wont change till a couple months after the wedding when the marriage license is received back and you can begin going to all the places needed to change the name.

So Ive been hearing that Alaska cruises tend to have alot more older group of people and not so much young? We both still want to go we've never been to Alaska and love scenery and new places. Has anyone else heard this?

I’ve heard that as well but I know a lot of younger people that have taken an Alaskan cruise. I’ve wanted to go for years but haven’t because it’s a bit more expensive with flights and hotels. That may be one reason that it tends to be a. It older.

Cruises to Alaska do skew a bit old, but so do most cruises. If you are going in July/August, there will also be a fair number of families traveling over the summer break. If your goal is to select a ship that skews younger, you can do that by picking cruise lines that are less sedate: Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian. Also, make sure to select a cruise that is 7 days - the longer the cruise, the older the cruisers. I'd recommend a roundtrip out of Vancouver BC or Seattle. You'll see great scenery and have some options for fantastic hikes or other fun outdoor adventures.
