Honeymoon cost

Liz, on April 6, 2021 at 10:45 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 34
I just started pricing out what was supposed to be a cheaper honeymoon trip for us and realized how expensive it was going to be. How much are you all spending on your honeymoon?

We went to Hilton Head Island, SC for 4 nights and spent around $4,000 total. That included flights, renting a car, hotel, and food and drinks. We didn’t do much while we were down there as we really just wanted to relax and enjoy some time together so no paid for activities- just a lot of walking the beach and enjoying the views/town.

Well, we didn’t feel comfortable traveling out of the country so we are splitting up our honeymoon. We’re going to Disney/universal in September and then we’re going to Key West in November. In total it’s going to cost us probably about 12 grand. Rough estimate of 6 grand per trip. We will be renting a car and driving down both times because we are bringing our dog with us on vacation both times and renting houses each time that ok pets. If we weren’t bringing our dog, I’d say we’d easily be able to save wayyyyy more because at that point we would’ve been able to get plane tickets, and get discounted hotel rates etc. but seeing as how we can’t go overseas because were too afraid we won’t be able to get back if we test positive with Covid etc. we felt that this was the best thing to do. And it helps break up our year with two trips instead of one big one. Have you thought about reaching out to a travel agency?

We picked the honeymoon destination within a day of getting engaged. Yellowstone National Park. We've both always wanted to go and have never been and we both love outdoors stuff. We also thought we would be saving a bit of money doing that as opposed to going to the Bahamas or something. I'm pricing things out and it's looking like a 6k trip, and that's not even honeymoon suites at hotels that's bare minimum, not a roach motel cost.

Dang! I wouldn’t have thought Yellowstone would be more than Disney or Key West.

I usually price out trips per day. I calculate between €200 and €300 per day to get an overall budget. This includes all flights, hotels and any other purchases. We stay in nice but not luxurious hotels mostly, unless we are going to a resort to chill, otherwise we aren't in the room much. It usually evens out because some days we go hiking or wandering around town and others we will go to museums etc. Food is where we splurge (high end cocktail bars and Michelin restaurants), but even then it's not crazy, mainly because the destinations we go tend to be cheaper than where we live, Paris. For instance, our 3 week trip to South Korea and Japan will come out to roughly €6300 when we can finally go. In 2019 we did Toronto, Niagara, NYC and Rome in 3 weeks and it was about €5000. Not to mention the 500 other trips I've planned whilst cooped up in lockdown.😂

I honestly couldn't tell you how much we ended up spending on our honeymoon. It wasn't part of our wedding budget. We live in Maryland and we went to California for 6 days 5 nights. The first two days we didn't have a car as we relied on Uber, but the third day we got a car to drive from San Diego to Los Angeles. The first day we went to the beach, the second day we went to San Diego Zoo and Safari park, the third day we went to SeaWorld then drove to Los Angles, the fourth day we went to Hollywood, the fifth day we went to Disney, and the sixth day we went to the beach and then a baseball game. We were very busy and did a ton of different things. It was a great time. We got married pre-Covid.

Ouch, just looked up room prices. Those are NYC rates! My guess is because it's so remote, but still. Are there any other National Parks that you find interesting? Might be cheaper. Unless camping is an option for you.

Yea no kidding! We might change up the destination, it's not really drivable for us google maps is showing 27 hr drive time. And while we love camping, we would prefer a bed for our honeymoon lol. I just feel like if we're spending that kind of money we should do a Caribbean trip or something.

We're looking at an Alaskan cruise, and for airfare/hotel/cruise tickets plus excursions we're looking at possibly $5-6k.

You might look for a travel agent near you and see if they can help. Most hotels have a commission built into their costs, but when you book yourself it just goes back to them, where you could help a local business person out.

Also, they often times have great insider knowledge and might be able to get you special upgrades.

Before we changed our honeymoon date (since our wedding was postponed), I believe the price was about $8k for a week in St. Lucia. Since we had to change it, I'm pretty sure there was a difference or something that needed to be paid but I couldn't tell you cause my mom is gifting us the trip.

Wow...... we are driving 2.5/3 hrs to Gettysburg, PA and staying at an air b'n'b ... for $1,540 for the house for the week. we will most likely eat a few meals out, and have to do grocery shopping while up there/hit some other shops/maybe do some paid tours so it's not fully priced out yet, but still MUCH cheaper....

Call your credit card company and see how you can use points towards your travel, this plus points from various hotels and airlines saved us a ton. We still spent a ton, but still.

We spent $5000 for 12 days/11 nights in Greece. We spent 6 nights in a budget-friendly 3-star hotel with no frills (we did lots of day trips and sight seeing and spent very little time in the hotel) and 5 nights in a 5-star resort on the beach (we barely left the resort at all during this segment of our honeymoon). The $5000 included flights from the US, car rental, and all food and drink. This was in summer 2019

I legit didn't have a budget for mine haha. but in total it was like 5.5k in total for the both of us, which wasn't bad at all especially because we went on a long 2.5 week honeymoon

Ours was gifted to us, but it was probably right at 12K for 7 nights/8 days at WDW

We did 5 nights/6 days at WDW for about $3k?

But we went during off-season, stayed at an All-Star hotel, and had a travel agent friend help us get deals.

Honeymoons cost whatever you feel is appropriate. Everyone has different budgets.

We are going to spend probably close to $6k on ours depending on certain circumstances. We are going to Disney/Universal in Florida and went for a moderate hotel, but my uncle works for Disney and is trying to get us a discount (they suspended discounts for family members of employees unless the employee is actually with them. My uncle works on the ESPN campus in Connecticut, so he's not going to come with us just for a discount!). So hotel is about $2k, parks will be around $1k or so (again, depending on if uncle can get free passes or not), and then flights and food. To us it's worth it though to spend the money to enjoy ourselves.
