Honeymoon Charleston or Sedona?

Alicia, on September 29, 2016 at 7:12 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21

FH and I are trying to decide where to do our honeymoon and we have narrowed it down between Charleston, SC and Sedona, AZ.

Our wedding is in Pittsburgh and we will be flying out from there right after the wedding in March and are probably doing 5-6 days total.

I have not been to either location and do know they are very different. FH has been to Charleston and loves the southern atmosphere and good food. But we like the idea that Sedona might feel like more of a secluded getaway with hiking and sightseeing. If anyone has done either for honeymoons or have thoughts on the best option let me know! Would love any advice.

We don't have a specific budget yet so that's not weighing in our decision since we think flights, hotel, cars, etc will be somewhat similar price range in both areas.

Thanks ladies!

I love Sedona. My fiance took me there for my birthday in July. Probably the most beautiful place I've been to.

@angelaleigh that is gorgeous! I am slightly leaning towards Sedona to see the beauty since I've never been anywhere like it before! Also we both have March 2017 weddings yay!

The weather in March/April (if you're planning on going right after your wedding) will be really nice. When we went in July, the temps were in the 100s. We had to do all our hiking in the morning when it was only 90. But it was still great. The scenery looks like a painting. It's hard to believe it's real life.

@angelaleigh What else did you do besides hiking? Trying to figure out the different activities we could do and if it would be a lot of driving every time we want to do something? Your photos are goregeous and make me want to be there now!

In the town there are bars and restaurants. There are lots of different tours they offer such as horseback riding and off road tours. The Grand Canyon is within driving distance, which of course is breathtaking. Depending on the time of year, they may have festivals going on.

We are honeymooning in Charleston so I'm a little biased! It really is beautiful there though. There is so much good food and my fiancé and I are already planning on eating our hearts out. The harbor is very pretty as well, we are going in winter so maybe not as much then but the one other time we had been there was in the summer and it was gorgeous. The one difference in cost you might see is that Charleston is very walkable from most hotels in the city. We booked the Francis Marion if you are looking for suggestions, it seems to be close to pretty much everything. I don't really know anything about Sedona but I'm guessing you will probably need a rental car to get you around, plus paying for parking in the city. Not a large expense for sure but something to think about!

We're going to Sedona for the wedding and mini-honeymoon. I can't wait, it looks gorgeous. We'll be doing some vortex hikes, going on a Pink Jeep Tour, they have a cute arts village Tlaquepaque, and amazing views.

I think it depends on whether you want an upbeat fun honeymoon (Charleston) or a relaxed secluded holiday (Sedona).

@ceelengoestocamp yes the food is what is drawing me to Charleston I am a foodie and love the idea of eating all the food after the wedding!

@SoonToBe.MrsP thanks for the additional ideas on things to do in Sedona FH & I will have to look those up! Yes we do need to decide what "type" of honeymoon we really want. After the hoopla of a wedding the relaxed and secluded holiday is very tempting!

Has anyone checked out the wineries in Sedona? That could be a tipping factor, just curious what types of wines they're known for or which wineries would be the best to visit?

I dont know about wineries (though I know of breweries in Flagstaff, which is about 30 mins away), but we are getting married in Sedona so I am definitely pro Sedona! One thing to keep in mind is that they are quite strict about noise, especially after 9 (when most things shut down). You can always go to the next door town of Oak Creek for more late night. That might be exactly what you have in mind.

I really just think it is an amazing beautiful place.

I live in Charleston now and I lived near Sedona a few years ago. It depends on what kind of scene you like! I prefer Charleston more personally! Vendors around here are the best. There are a lot of great locations around Charleston and in Mount Pleasant here in South Carolina!

If you're willing to venture out from downtown Sedona, there are a lot of wineries in nearby Verde Valley. Also, Prescott is near Sedona and has a lot of wineries, breweries and a meadery (which is amazing!). I personally love the idea of going somewhere neither of you have been so you can explore it together for the first time.

I did see a few wineries in the Sedona area. Look up Javelina Leap and Page Springs Cellars. FH and I will be visiting one of those, we love wine tours and tastings!

I also saw a couple breweries, but I haven't really looked into which ones are better.

Definitely Sedona. Especially if you are an outdoors kind of person. It is absolutely gorgeous and has endless amounts of things for you and your FH to do. The weather will be perfect that time of year too, although it will get a little chilly at night.

here is a link for winery tours in Sedona

Sedona is gorgeous, and has lots of outdoorsy activities. March should be great weather too. We went in May and it was already getting hot. Charleston is gorgeous as well, but more geared toward history, and spring in Charleston is a great time to go.

I live in Arizona and have to say I am very biased. Northern Arizona is absolutely beautiful and Sedona is truly breathtaking. You will not regret it and it's a great time of year for it.

I've never been to Charleston, but I've been considering it. I have always been obsessed with Gone With the Wind, and I would love to see some of the old plantation houses.

I live in AZ and plan on getting married in Sedona so I am biased. I haven't been to Charleston. i say Sedona if you love to hike. Hit Devil's bridge, hike Bell rock, see Enchantment resort, west fork trail you won't be disappointed. Also check out Crescent moon park its so beautiful. all the trails are pretty there.
