Honeymoon; Change In Location

Brooke, on September 17, 2019 at 10:49 AM Posted in California Planning 0 7

OK, SOOOOOOO I should have known this going in, but we are going to have to change our honeymoon and stay in the USA due to my husband's job and timeline (military). Because of this, we will no longer be going to Costa Rica and I have switched it to California.

Does anyone have any good itineraries or locations to visit for our honeymoon Dec 30, 2019 - Jan 10, 2020? I was thinking about starting in San Francisco, visiting Napa Valley, then spending a week in Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks (we have 12 days).

Any other suggestions or change in locations? I'm starting from scratch so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hear the baker's cay resort in key largo is really nice, like a tropical vacation. Its in the florida key's so you are still in the states. In case you decide to change locations!

If you are thinking northern California, there are a lot of romantic spots. It will be cold during that time but lake tahoe is you like snow/ skiing or snowboarding. Could be fun to get a cabin when its snowing. Go to the coast near Big Sur and walk along the beach, again cold but amazing views. Napa and Sonoma are amazing! Other than wine they have amazing food, cheese, and olive oil tasting. The wine train in Napa i've heard is a good experience for food and wine. Drive down route 1 again amazing views. There area ton of cute airbnb's or B&B's that would be fun to just stay in a nice place with a view. If you want warm weather, go to Socal. Catalina island to get more of an island feel without leaving the states? I haven't been to all of these places, but there are some on my bucket list I want to experience.

Check on the road conditions for Yosemite since they are often closed or difficult to navigate during the winter due to ice and snow. Even in good weather, the roads to get there can cause some people to be squeamish or car sick. It is beautiful though.

Napa and Sonoma are also great places to visit. We got married in Sonoma and go to Napa a few times a year. We did the Napa Valley Wine train a few months ago and that was a lot of fun. It is pricey though. There is an adorable bed and breakfast in Napa called the Candlelight Inn that we enjoy staying at.

It will be cold during that time of year, especially in the mountains. If you prefer warmer, sunnier weather then I recommend going down to Southern California. San Diego is a great option.
