Honemoon in Maldives or Aruba

Linda, on September 6, 2016 at 7:20 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

FH and I are trying to figure out where we want to go for our honeymoon and we cant decide on the Maldives or Aruba. Has anyone been to either and would recommend it for a honeymoon? Or has anyone been to both and would suggest one or the other?

Thank you!

I'm going to Maldives at the end of this month for our delayed honeymoon Smiley smile. I've been to Aruba and it is a beautiful place, but it is crowded with over development. But I'm sure if you do an all-inclusive, it will be an enjoyable time.

Maldives on the other hand is said to be very peaceful and relaxing with amazingly clear water and beautiful beaches. I am so looking forward to this trip.

If you want, I'll let you know how it went when we come back Smiley smile

If you can swing it (and handle the long travel, assuming you are coming from the US) the Maldives is the way to go! We actually got engaged there, but currently live less than a 4hr flight to get there so it's a relatively "easy" trip for us.

If you do go with the Maldives, there are a ton of options, but there are a few hotels that have an age restriction (hint- look for one with no kids club), including our favorite. I can not say enough about how romantic and relaxing the Maldives can be. Oh and my profile picture is from a snorkeling trip around the house reef at the hotel we stayed at, so the snorkeling and diving is amazing. If you are not water people, be warned there isn't much else to do at the resorts, and there really isn't any place else to go once you get to your hotel....although that really isn't a bad thing on a honeymoon Smiley smile

I don't want to turn this post into travel planning, but let me know if you want any more information- I did a ton of research before we went there.

@DA please update us on how your trip went i would love to know. @kmd0506 yeah we are coming from new york so that is something i was a little concerned about. I wasnt sure if the super long flight would be an issue or if we should stop somewhere else for a day or 2 before the Maldives. I know for sure we want the white sand beaches and crystal clear water and total relaxation. Since we want to go for a week I was wondering if it could get boring for that long? There arent options of four wheeling or anything like that right?

I know that Emirates offers a free stopover in Dubai if you were interested in a break there. I am not as familiar with the other airlines anymore and what options they might offer. It is a lot of travel from the US, but I think totally worth it especially if it is for a full week. Our first trip there I had to fight to spend 3 nights there because my fiancé thought he would be bored, and on the second day he asked why we weren't staying longer, and we usually prefer really busy vacations.

There isn't enough land to four wheel anywhere that I have seen, but some resorts do offer more watersports than others- including jet skis and banana boat rides.....but it is a tradeoff, a resort big enough to have some of those activities will be busier and probably not as quiet and romantic as one that has more limited activities.

Maldives and Aruba are so different! Maldives is definitely a long trip from just about anywhere, but if you can afford it (the time away and the $&dollarSmiley winking go there! It's a once in a lifetime place! Aruba is great, but it's so much closer that it would be more feasible to go in the future (I'm assuming you live in the US/Canada).

Aruba!!! Been there 18+ times. It's my favorite spot in the world for vacation. Temp consistently in the 80-90's. MAYBE 30 mins of rain a day. Has topical and desert like environment. Lots of activities, you can be as busy or as bored as you want. Good restaurants. I literally cannot say enough good things about Aruba. We're staying there for one week of our honeymoon.

I haven't been to either, but I would definitely choose the Maldives if you can swing it budget-wise and are ok with the super long flight!

The Maldives are in some political turmoil right now...

    I'd stick with Aruba
