Help!

Clarisbel, on May 27, 2020 at 4:13 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5
Hey, so I booked our Maldives honeymoon for July through hotels.com and booked the flight and hotel room together. I had until May 16th to cancel. Well today, I received and email saying that the flight was canceled. I called them to ask what would happen with the hotel room. They told me that I had until May 16 to cancel, and that now I might not get a refund. I explained how I planned on going if the flight had not been canceled. They told me that they had to call the hotel to see if it was okay for the money to be returned. I do not know what to do. It’s not my fault the flight was canceled today, plus I booked both the hotel and flight with them. Has anyone been through the same thing? What should I do? HELP!

Call and talk to customer service directly, we had to cancel our honeymoon and one of our resorts was nonrefundable. But when I got a real breathing human on the phone they refunded it back immediately.

Yes, I spoke to a customer service representative and that is what they told me. That they had to speak to the hotel.

When you use a third-party booking site like hotels.com, you are at their mercy - they own the reservation so the hotel will generally only speak with them. In addition, even if the hotel itself provides a refund you are bound by the terms you booked under with hotels.com.

You need to go back to the terms and conditions stated on your confirmation to see the starting point for the circumstances under which a refund can be made.

You may have to provide proof that your flights canceled and that's the reason behind canceling. You can also contact the hotel on your own. I've been through this with Hotels.com. (I know you said the hotels.com was contacting the hotel, but you too can contact them and ask for their consideration if the vendor comes back and says no).

If you booked the flight and hotel together as a package deal with the same company, you should be covered. I would contact Elliott Advocacy for help: https://www.elliott.org/ They are good with these types of scenarios
