Help with underwhelming photos.

Alyssa, on February 18, 2023 at 10:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hey all I'm wondering how you would go about this situation: photographers that were spoken with sent different people from their "team" to take photos for a wedding. It took over 10 weeks for photos to come back even though my contract states a 4-6week turn around. I didn't have much confidence in the photographers as is, they wouldn't tell us how/where to stand. Didn't tell us to hold bouquets lower for pictures or anything (thank God for bridesmaids!).

Now that I'm looking at the photos it is so underwhelming. Not in focus, not centered, and over all looks like something i could take on a phone and use instagram to edit. Has anyone gone through this before? Just wondering if I'm SOL, or if anything can be done.

*****this was not for my wedding but someone I'm close with*****

Does the contract mention that team members would be sent instead of the main photographer? If not, your friend could argue that them doing so is a breach of contract along with how long it took to get the photos back. I think they'd be entitled to at least a partial refund for those reasons.

Unfortunately it does say they have a team. But I know the one person has their own buisness as we went to high school together. So its more like they contract with others so it's annoying.

Unfortunately, in this situation, I don’t think there’s much that can really be done; aside from her, expressing her disappointment with the photos, and requesting some sort of compensation (whether that be monetary, or a free couples photo, shoot, etc.). But, if the photographer/company denies the request, I don’t think there’s much more that can be done, as it does not appear they are in breach of their contract. Photography is an art, and is subjective. So what one person thinks is unacceptable, another person might view as fantastic. That is why most contracts include some sort of wording about artistic expression.

A small claims lawsuit might be possible. A blurry picture as final product could be identified as a lack of qualification. Alternatively, maybe the photographer would agree to reshoot some pictures of the wedded couple. Maybe with more of the raw photos, a collage could be formed.

Wouldn't they have breached the contract when the photos took almost 2x as long. They have no disclaimers saying photos could take longer.

Yeah the "creative freedom" really sucks when you pick a photographer with a specific style then they hire a photographers style you don't like to do photos. Also no one would view it as fantastic eyes are closed lots of pictures and bride and groom are out of focus. I just feel bad she spent all this money and the photos aren't great

It was a destination wedding so chances of a resort are slim. Hoping they are decent people and will offer some compensation. 🤞🏻

Sounds like a very unprofessional team of photographers. Could your friend go to the bank or credit card company and fight the charges? I’ve done this in the past with success. Not with photographers, but other services.
