Help - Water on table?

Amanda, on April 25, 2024 at 11:41 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Our venue does NOT have a kitchen, and the only source of water is those a hose hookup on the side of the building. We will have a watering station that we will ask our bartenders to keep an eye out on. Also, our cater is not a "full service" catering company. They will be helping with serving the buffet and that is it.

Question is - do I still buy glass water goblets for tables and have one pitcher for each table filled before guests arrive? There will not be servers to re-fill the pitchers on tables. Or do I just leave the glasses empty on tables, and let people fill up themselves at the watering station, no pitcher then on table? Or do I not have any glasses on tables and just have cold bottled water in big ice buckets?
PS - We will have about 185 guests. So around 23-25 tables.

I would have water on the tables. With that many guests the water station might get kind of crowded.

I would do both. Have water pictures filled on the tables, and also have buckets of bottled water in multiple places throughout the venue. As Jack mentioned, one watering station for that many people can become quite congested quickly. You will want to space out multiple areas people can acquire water to prevent a “traffic jam” of people.

Buy cases of water from Costco. While past generations’ kids had no problem drinking from a hose, it’s not the best option for a wedding

If there’s no one to refill the pitchers, I wouldn’t put pitchers out. Put out full glasses, have glasses by the beverage station, and/or put out water bottles.

Buy water bottles. A lot of people would not want to drink unfiltered hose water.

Yes, for sure you'll need a bunch of big jugs of water, and for sure not from the hose. Wondering if you can rent a big dispenser and fill it with fresh water, as well as having water on the tables.

If you have 185 guests and each of them drinks 1 L (3-4 cups) over the night that's nearly 200 L of water, which is around 50 gallons. I believe you can rent 50 gal water tanks for potable water.

Any local party rental company has dispensers available for hot or cold beverages. Fill them with the 2 gallon water jugs from Costco.

I am in agreement with the others in this thread to not put out the jugs of water. However, in this instance, I would definitely make the splurge (if at all possible) to hire professional waitstaff for the duration of the dinner and the reception, or ask the bartenders or your caterers (including the catering manager) for an "a la carte" service to be hired for additional hours and services. Most vendors can be accommodating so long as they are being paid and the services requested are not unreasonable. Serving water and non-alcoholic beverages is not an unreasonable request.
