Help. Please. Before i lose my mind.

Renee, on September 23, 2019 at 7:29 PM Posted in Colorado Planning 0 20

I need ideas/advice/opinions.

Colorado venue prices are INSANE. Colorado has become a destination wedding hot spot and the prices people are willing to pay are crazy. I mean I looked at one venue, and the Friday/Saturday rental came with a nice $35,000 F&B minimum!?! Whattttt??

That being said even ones marked "affordable" start at $5000+ just for the event space. That doesn't include all the important things like photography and food and other extras. Before I know it I'm at almost $15,000.

And normally I'm not this tight with my wallet but the idea of paying that much for one day, seems... crazy.

Now don't get me wrong, I've always wanted a wedding. I've been Pinterest "planning" for basically our 8 year long relationship. But now that I'm actually doing it, WOAH.

So anyways, I need help and ideas. I've recently started looking at Airbnb's and I think it has potential but because it's not overly done and at someone else's home there's not a lot of direction or ideas.

Here are a few things we know for sure:

- November 13 2020

-35-40 guests (including us)

-Mountain or industrial setting

-Must be in CO

My biggest concern isn't so much holding the ceremony at one because if we do find a mountain location then we aren't short on views or space.

But what I do with all these people after for a reception. Do I provide small plate, tapas style food at the lodge or go for a restaurant afterwards? Also how do I make something that seems casual more formal. I still want the wedding feel just without the wedding price tag. And would it be weird to have 5 GM & 5 BM considering our guest list is small? I sort of already asked them and sincerely do want them a part of this.

Sorry for the long post but I need the help. Thanks in advance.

AirBNB's are a good option! Also consider out of the box locations. Restaurants with a balcony/patio, nature centers (what we went with), etc

Thank you. I really like the idea of an Airbnb. I’ll look at those other options too! 🙂

We’re doing our reception as a dinner party in a private dining room at a nice restaurant. It’s not inexpensive, but we get the space with settings and service in addition to a farm-to-table meal for the price of a fine but not special outside caterer at a traditional venue. The best part is that we are only responsible for the set up and break down of decorations so we are keeping that really simple.

I was thinking about doing Airbnb but I found it to be incredibly difficult because the expenses were just as much or more because of just simple things like table rentals, cutlery, plating, etc. we are having our wedding at baldoria on the water, idk if you’ve checked it out but they are very fairly priced. Venue and catering is setting us back about 5500 with 75 people through them.

Be careful with Airbnb, most state they don’t allow weddings period and some will allow it with an enormous wedding fee. This could cost you thousands. You might get lucky and find a diamond in the rough but be wary.
Bed & breakfasts are a good option for smaller weddings, or since you just want a ceremony in a mountain location look for something state owned you just need a permit for. Grab your officiant and boom. Then dinner at a restaurant.

Some cheaper options in CO. Keep in mind a lot of air bnb's aren't licensed to do weddings on the property and you wind up paying a lot in additional fees.

Look into wedgewood venues! There a quite a few in Colorado, I booked with wedgewood in Sacramento CA, and it's all inclusive and the planners and coordinators are included in all of it and it relieves so much stress. Wedgewood is the way to go 100%

Check out Mountain View Ranch by Wedgewood Weddings. They are ALL INCLUSIVE from STD's to clean up and tear town. They have 2 ceremony areas, and the Willows are amazing. They also have a series of cabin's that typically the guest's will pay for but we had it quoted in ours. We ended up going a different route but nonetheless, the area is beautiful. We ended up going with Arrowhead Golf Club for our and the venue is providing the food/bev/alcohol, linens and tables/chairs. We had to do everything else. Plus they also have a restaurant if someone wants something other than what we picked already.

I’ve heard very mixed reviews about their packages and how little design and say the bride and groom have. Have you run into this? I’ve also heard their packages aren’t as cheap as they lead on?

So far the pricing has been pretty spot on, my calculations were only about $500 off from the final price, but that's with a few variables. And I have a lot of freedom when it comes to the decorations, definitely worth it to me

A lot of cities & counties are banning events at airbnb's so I would try to avoid that unless the airbnb is marketed strictly as a venue. We got married at Crooked Willow Farms in Larkspur, but just the venue fee was $11,000 for a Saturday. Some of the cheaper venues we looked at were...

    - Ten Bears Winery in Laporte. No venue fee, but you do have to use their alcohol.

    - Casa Vista, CO (Fraser) - $2,400

    - Fort Collins Marriott on Horsetooth (I can't remember how much but they have a pretty back room with twinkle lights & open ceilings and it's pretty affordable)

    - Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch in Loveland - $3,200

    - Aspen Grove at Sundance (Red Feather) - $450

If you are open to it, I'd check out places in WY too!

We are getting married at the Red Rocks Country Club in April next year, which is low season and I'm sure November is too. The ceremony is costing $2,000, and the reception is costing $4,000 for a Friday evening. The cost covers all the food and drinks. We really couldn't find a better deal for something so classy. We are expecting about 50 people and the $4,000 will comfortably cover food and drinks for everyone. If you would like the contact info for the event director, Lisa, I would be happy to give you her info.

I've also been looking at venues in Colorado and suffered from the same sticker shock. A few things I've learned:

*If you are open to doing it on a Sunday, you can save a considerable amount of money - between $1000 and $5000, depending on the venue. Most Colorado venues will also offer significant discounts if you are willing to hold your event November - March.

    * Keep digging - don't rely on on this site alone to look for affordable venues. Create accounts on other wedding sites because not every venue is listed on every site. Also helpful are wedding photographer's' instagram feeds and photo blogs for discovering hidden gems.

*Look at venues and park facilities that are operated by city, state and county agencies. If you live in the Denver metro area, Denver (city and county) and Jefferson County have some great options in the mountains and in the city through their departments of. The trade off is that there are stricter rules on how long the venue is available to you and that you will be responsible for bringing in tables, chairs, linens, etc.

*Also look at museums and music venues - The Trading Post at Red Rocks is surprisingly affordable (you can choose to hold your reception at the RR restaurant or not) and the ceremony backdrop is hard to beat.

We are getting married at Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park. The venue fee is $5000 but it includes a ton of things including a complimentary honeymoon suite the night before and the night of the wedding!

We chose Wedgewood Black Forest. It’s absolutely beautiful! We got the middle package on a Friday in November for around 12,000. That includes open bar, buffet style meal, DJ, invites, wedding planner, centerpieces, chairs, tables, etc. they have been amazing!

The Cliff House at Pikes Peak has several options which I thought were all super cost effective and have been great to work with so far.
