help - Honeymoon dilemma

Ashley, on April 13, 2020 at 3:47 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

So we are supposed to be going on a cruise to Italy towards the end of July (the 20th to be exact). Our last payment is due next week, but we know there is a possibility of having to cancel it and have a honeymoon in the United States instead due to COVID-19.

Where would you recommend going in the US? We are open to everything - beaches/mountains/touristy/not touristy, etc. We are from NC so we have been all over the South. We don't mind doing something close to here, but would like to venture out if possible.

OR would you try to keep the honeymoon on the cruise to Italy?

Any suggestions/opinions would be great. Thanks, y'all!

Currently the CDC has a no sail order through mid July and I can’t imagine that getting lifted anytime soon. I would recommend doing something in the US if it is safe to do so at that time.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Looks like our decision is made for us. Thank you!

My FH wants to go to the smokey mountains in Tennessee. I looks beautiful and there are a lot of super cool cabins on air bnb you can rent.

If you were looking into visiting places with a lot of art and historic value, I'd suggest picking a city in the US you haven't been to before - NYC, Chicago, Boston, etc., and doing the touristy thing.

Depending on how things are in late June, we are planning on going out west to Arizona/Utah (Grand Canyon, Mt. Zion, etc). Also loved Denver and Colorado Springs when we went last year. Our honeymoon was supposed to be in Puerto Rico, but want to stay in the US now.

Try West coast California there are tons to do. get flights now while they are cheaper stay in San Diego a few days see zoos, eat different places, travel to San Francisco do sight seeing end in LAX or even Vegas. Vegas will be fun and when you end in a bigger city flights are cheaper leaving out of. Do air bnbs to say money if possible .

What did you end up deciding to do? We also booked a Mexico cruise that is suppose to leave July 19th. My fiance is still very hopeful, but I am not. Our last payment has went through and now if we cancel we will lose money. So we now have to wait it out until they cancel. I am realistic and know that is mostly going to be the case, so I am thinking of other ideas as well. I am hoping to still travel outside of the US in July to some all inclusive resort, but only time will tell!

I would cancel the cruise to Italy just to be safe, and nice places to go in the US: Outer Banks in North Carolina; Renting a nice house in rural Maine or Connecticut

We decided to cancel it and reschedule at some point to next year as our anniversary trip! We are just going to travel to somewhere in the US.

Hi Ashley, did they give you your money back or did you just take a credit for a later date? Still debating what the smartest move is. I have no doubt it will be cancelled but just don't know when! Since all our money is tied up its hard to make a decision on what is best at this point!

So we booked through Royal Caribbean and had only paid our deposit so we were just credited the deposit to use through Dec 2021 on another cruise. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy where you can cancel 48 hours ahead of time of your departure date, but since we had only paid a deposit we went ahead and cancelled it.

It may be different if you wait it out and let them cancel it, they may offer you an actual refund vs a credit. They've already cancelled cruises through like mid-June at this point.

Hi Ashley! Right yeah we had already paid our cruise in full before everything started getting really rocky. At this point we don't want a credit we are looking for the refund. I am hoping they cancel our cruise soon so we can submit for the refund and move on. As much as I would love to go on a cruise it just doesn't even sound nice right now. The refund would allow us to plan something else in the meantime! Hope you came up with another honeymoon plan!
