You can be as alternative and low cost as you want. First, research the steps to get a marriage license because it's not official until someone signs. Then, find an officiant available. Attire can be off the rack, resale, or rental. Alterations are best closer to date anyway so you're fine.

A home wedding may be the most affordable location for your midnight timeframe. Choose pick-up or drop-off catering at your local favorite restaurant; more advanced notice is best in case they are closed for vacation. Choose colors according to your home decor and in-season flowers. Purchasing pointsettas and seasonal decor may be easiest and cheapest. Use holiday lights inside and outside the home. Or you can search for a restaurant open through midnight, use their catering and holiday decor if you have more budget money.

Black and white is super easy as far as colors go. Or you could switch the black out for navy if you really wanted to. I agree with LM about the catering, maybe see if you could get a party tray or 2? Champagne string lights (the warm whitish gold ones) would be really nice and go with everything, plus they create a nice atmosphere. Try to see if you can get stuff from Lulus or Macy's (a cocktail dress would be perfect for new year's eve!)

New Years Eve weddings can be really tricky on short notice, because most venues and caterers book months (sometimes even a year) out. I would nail down your venue, officiant and caterer ASAP! As far as colors go, I would choose whatever compliments your venue. Black and gold is a very popular color choice for New Years Eve weddings. Best advice is to reach out to all vendors today and see who/what is available for NYE! Congratulations on the engagement! Smiley smile
