If you’re having a more casual wedding the cheapest would be drop off restaurant catering from either a bbq, Italian or Mexican restaurant. You can usually get that for $10-$20 per person.

Our local grocery store, Hy-Vee is doing catering. I was hesitant about having a grocery store do it but I’ve had their food, and we did a tasting and everything was pretty good. They could pretty much do anything we wanted. Expecting 100 people and we are looking at about $1800

Contact your favorite restaurant. Most offer catering for a fraction of the price of a wedding caterer.

Does the price include staff, things like flatware, stemware, set up, clean up, etc? When looking for catering we found that while we could find cheaper caterers/food most lacked the extras needed to serve and clean up said food.
Our wedding planner was kind enough to give her experience as we at one point where thinking of doing a food truck. Turns out while you save on the food vendor the cost comes back sometimes higher as you will need to hire wait staff to at least bus the tables and rent flatware, stemware, and etc. separately.

    Where are you?

Prices vary *greatly* by region. Where I am, that would be considered incredibly low!

If you take a look up at the "Planning Tools" tab above, you can get a good idea of what the average cost of catering is in your area.

I agree with PP; Prices vary greatly depending on location. Where Rebecca is that’s considered low, where I am that’s double the price of my 125 person quote!

This is why we chose to cook our own food. We are doing buffet style. We found a venue that is allowing us to do this. Not all do that. No way was we spending thousands just on food.

We are having a local meat deli BBQ chicken and pork for our wedding. It is going to be $370 for 60 people. My grandma is making pasta salad, my future mother in law is making potato salad and our friend is making baked beans. Maybe you can look in to something like this.

I think if you get a caterer just outside of an expensive county, prices tend to be lower.
