Hawaii in August!!!

Cindy, on May 1, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

Hello ladies, my husband and I will be traveling to Hawaii in August. We're spending a day on the big island near Hilo and six days on Oahu. Any recommendations on things to do, what not to do, where to eat, where to stay, and where to go? Thanks in advance! Smiley heart

Just got back from Oahu! My favorite day was renting a jeep and traveling the north shore with my fiancé and stopping at every food truck along the way (we are foodies!) We packed swimsuits and sunscreen and stopped at little beaches along the way. It was romantic and super fun to explore. If you like to hike make sure you go before it rains!

    Hi Cindy Smiley smile

I’ve always wanted to visit Hawaii! Hopefully someday Smiley smile

Have you checked out the LonelyPlanet for Hawaii travel suggestions? I love that site, I find it’s great for getting travel tips and destination guides!

TripAdvisor is also fantastic for travel tips on what to do, where to eat, stay, etc.

Go find the guidebooks Oahu Revealed and Big Island Revealed. We have been to the Big Island four times and use that guidebook every time. It's wonderful. We always stay on the Kona side ourselves and haven't spent much time in Hilo. Depending on interests, you could go zip lining or to the botanical gardens, hiking, or just sit on a beach. If you change your mind and decide to do the day on the Kona side, I have great restaurant and activity suggestions.

How exciting! My husband and I both live on Oahu and got married last August! Depending on what kind of 'experience' you're after while on Oahu, this is what I'd recommend:

Ala Moana Center is hands-down the largest mall in our state, as well as one of the largest open-air malls in the country (I believe I heard that from somewhere...). If you're looking for awesome local boutiques that you won't find anywhere else, however, then you should definitely check out Kailua Town. Not only do they have the most awesome little shops, you can also rent bicycles to make it a fun adventure, plus there's the world-famous Kailua Beach nearby. And if you're a foodie into brunch, Kailua is most definitely a brunch-town. "Boots and Kimo's" as well as "Cinnamon's" are tourist favorites, but I recommend "Over Easy" and "Moke's" because these are local favorites. And yes, I live in Kailua so I'm most definitely biased to this area Smiley winking

You might want to experience one of our famous Hawaiian 'luaus' as well and the Polynesian Culture Center over in Laie is great! Because of it's location on the north-western side of the island, I recommend making a day of it, starting from Haleiwa and North Shore, driving along the cost to check out the fun food trucks in Kahuku and various beaches, then ending the night at the dinner luau at PCC.

As for accommodations, Waikiki is most popular, but there are also lots of beach house rentals you can find on the above-mentioned sides of the island.

One word of caution though, a couple months back we experienced torrential rains that caused several landslides along the Pali Highway. This area is still under repair, but they've opened it up for driving - however - there is a very specific schedule for lane flow that is currently still in effect (i.e. you can go town-bound in the morning, then it contra-flows for Kailua-bound traffic in the afternoon). This is really important to know if you are planning to take the Pali, otherwise, there's also Kalanianaole Highway and the H3. You can get all the latest updates on our state's department of transportation website here - https://hidot.hawaii.gov

Hope these recommendations help! I'm starting a new resource for Hawaii weddings and definitely love helping couples! It hasn't launched yet, but will this August 2019! Feel free to follow on instagram @hawaiiwedpedia for future updates Smiley laugh
