Hawaii Honeymoon - Question for those who have been there

Erin, on January 24, 2011 at 12:05 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 27

We live in Arizona and neither of us have gone to Hawaii and we want to for our honeymoon. How is the weather there in the middle of September? I know it's ending monsoon season here...what about there? Any info is appreciated! We want a place to relax on the beach for a week, is it the dream place all the pictures make it out to be?

YES, Hawaii is amazing. I would stay away from Honolulu though, unless you like touristy places. If you're looking for a secluded romantic getaway, I'd try the Big Island - or Maui. I've never been to Maui but I hear its fantastic. I haven't been there in September, only January. It was hot in January....so...

Hawaii is great. We honeymooned for 10 days in Waikiki. It is so much more than just a beach vacation. We hiked and swam with dolphins and surfed. We took a day trip over the the big island and toured the volcano national park and it was the highlight of the trip. i highly reccomend it! We went at the end of October. The weather was in the mid 80s and it did rain everyday though (usually just for an hour or so though so it didnt ruin anything.) Have you decided on which island you are going to go to?

No we haven't decided on an island yet but I don't want anything too crazy with a ton of tourists (even though I'll be one!). Your honeymoon sounds great though! I hear the weather is pretty much nice all the time so the idea is sounding better and better.

September is a good time to come to Hawaii. It usually doesn't start the rainy season until late October. If you don't want something too touristy I would stay away from Waikiki. It's really nice on the North Shore of Oahu though and I love Maui and Kauai. Kauai is more outdoorsy than the other islands so it's all about what kind of activities you want to do. Smiley smile

We went to Kauai this past mid-late October, and it was amazing. In the 80's every day, with rain only for 10 minutes or so at a time when we were more inland, and maybe 3 times total. So go for it! I"ve only been Kauai, not the other islands, but Kauai was breathtakingly beautiful and I would totally recommend it.

I'm piggy-backing on your post Erin, lol. We're debating between the Virgin Islands and Hawaii.

The weather is perfect year round. Even when it rains it is warm. As for what island, It depends on what you are looking for. Night life and attractions plus lower cost to get there would have to be Oahu. Adventure would be the big Island. Laid back and water sport Maui. Kauai is hiking and lazying around. The other islands are just lazy time. Learn to surf would be on Oahu. So look at what you like to do with your time and use it as a guide.

I lived on Kauai for 10 yrs.

The weather is nice and warm all year round, even in the fall.

I always tell people who are wanting to visit Hawaii, that if you want to do a lot of running around and shopping then you want to go to Honolulu, much more touristy.

Now if you want to get away and relax, Kauai is a great island to do that. Nice beaches to relax on, places for hiking. You can take some boat rides if you want (capt andy's and holo holo charters are two of the best on that island) Ziplines are amazing! and so are helicopter tours (my step-dad used to work for Air 1 helicopters, so I got a chance to go up with them for free one time to balance the load, lots and lots of fun)

But like Amy said, it depends on what you are looking to do while you're there

I hear it's beautiful but very expensive. My BFF and her sister went for a week and rented a condo and bought and made their own food. I doubt you'd want to do that on your honeymoon though!

Maui Maui Maui!!! :-) I stayed at the Four Seasons there and it was AMAZING!!! It is secluded enough to be romantic but still has enough going on so you don't get island fever. FH lived in Hawaii for a while back in the day and it is his favorite as well.

I lived on O'ahu for a few years and last year I visited Maui for my husband's triathlon. If you like the hustle and bustle of a touristy place, I'd recommend O'ahu. For something more on the relaxation side, I'd suggest Maui.

    .

What you could do though is stay in Maui and island hop to Oahu for a day. Island hopping tickets can be anywhere from $50-100 RT depending when you book and if there are special offers going on.

My fiance was stationed in Oahu and I went to visit him there...loved it! We rented an apartment off a private home in Kailua for a week for $600. There's lots to do there! Shopping in Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, surfing, beaches, snorkeling at Haunama Bay, luaus...I can keep going! Smiley smile

Kauai is my favorite island and the most relaxing I think. The Big island has all the valcanic activity which is fun to see. Oahu has Pearl Harbor but is definitly busier. We are going to hop all those islands in September. If you are a AAA member I am finding great deals through them.

My FH has lots of family in Hawaii. He has been about once a year his whole life. I have been maybe a dozen times. When his Auntie offered her home for our wedding we jumped at it. The big island is amazing. The wedding in on the big island. If it is a super clear day we could can Maui in the distance. Since it is in February we have asked the whales to jump and spin for us.

We are not into the night life. We decided to honeymoon on Kauai. We both hike and I am a runner so we will enjoy a few days alone with nature. Our last day and a half we will be in honolulu because I want to go shopping. I want to take some things back to Australia that I can't get there.

Not having lived there I am not partial to any one island.I love them all.
