Hawaii Honeymoon Help!

We went to Hawaii for 7 nights, Maui for 3 and Oahu for 4! We used points and flew with Southwest. The Royal Lahaina in Maui had a great deal, $365 a night for a part ocean view room, rental car & buffet breakfast. I liked going to two islands, it kept us busy enough without being too busy!

Which island(s) are you thinking and what kind of activities are you interested in? Are you outdoorsy? FH and I went to Maui/Kauai in August and loved it! The islands are seriously breathtaking. We did a bunch of hikes on both islands and I can give you more info on those if you're into that (I highly recommend doing at least 1-2 hikes even if it's not something you normally do - it's so worth it). Download the GyPSy Guide Maui app, it connects to your car's Bluetooth/sound system and guides you as you drive, and gives tips on little excursions nearby. Really great for touring/exploring the island without having your head stuck in a guide book!

I've been to oahu and Kauai. If you're outdoorsy then Kauai is more low-key.

To answer some questions:
I have to clue what island I want to go to.
Really into the beaches (clear blue water) and the flowers plus nature. Maybe see some waterfalls..
I want to experience the Hawaiian culture, not just tourist spots.
I also am an adrenaline junkie so I want to do things like skydive, cliff jumping, ride an ATV/4wheeler around,,, etc.

Kauai was definitely less touristy than Maui, IMO, and it well deserves its nickname "The Garden Island". I actually wish we had stayed a few more days on Kauai. The best waterfall experience we had was the Hanakapi'ai Falls Trail (moderate, 6.7mi). It was seriously so worth the entire side trip to Kauai! 2 miles into the hike there is a semi-private beach where you can swim and enjoy the water, then another 2 or so miles to the falls (it's not an easy hike but it is well worth it). You can swim in the falls too! Here's some more info:

We hiked almost every day and the sights were just breathtaking. If you do hikes, download the AllTrails app for use on the trail. We did these (must-sees in bold): Waihe'e Ridge Trail (moderate, 4mi); Lahaina Pali Trail (moderate, 5mi); Pipiwai Trail / Waimoku Falls (this is at the end of the Road to Hana, moderate, 3.4mi); Haleakala Crater/Sliding Sands Trail (hard, 11-14mi). One we didn't do (but was recommended by guide books) was Iao Valley Trail.

Highly recommend staying out of Honolulu and going to Maui or Kauai! Airbnb is the best for finding affordable and NICE places to stay in Hawaii.

My FH and I really wanted to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. Unfortunately we got the quote to go in January 2020 and it was way above what we were expecting to pay for our honeymoon. We decided to save our money and take a trip to Hawaii in the future. We were able to find an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica, for more nights and an ocean view room, for a much lower price than what Hawaii would have been.

Haleakala Summit Sunrise, MauiHawaii is amazing!! We just got married in on Oahu then honeymooned in Maui. You would love doing the Stairway To Heaven Hike on Oahu- it is nothing short of Epic! My husband and I did that the day after our wedding. We got married on the Kaneohe Bay Sandbar which would be a really cool day excursion!

On Maui- Road To Hana is amazing, there are waterfalls you can swim in all along the side of the road. Drive up 10,000ft to Haleakala Summit before sunrise- you can watch the sun come up ontop of a volcano above the clouds!

On the Big Island- Green Sand Beach is fun off road adventure.

Hawaii has resort fees for non locals which range anywhere from $45-$200 daily ontop of room costs so we booked all of our stays through AirBnB and VBRO to avoid that. Staying in houses instead of resorts is also a great way to experience Hawaii like the locals.

HawaiianAir Credit Card is currently offering 60,000 bonus points and 50% off a companion airplane ticket so I recommend getting that card and using that for your airplane tickets. CapitalOne Venture is also a great credit card with travel points, we used to get all of our rental cars for free on the islands.
