Have you ever removed your wedding ring?

Jessy, on September 25, 2023 at 4:00 AM Posted in Married Life 0 7
I have been married for 2,5 years and wear a wide plain 8mm wedding ring since the wedding day. I chose such because my mum always had one like this and wears it for 27 years. It is stuck on her finger and she is unable to remove it after all these years. I was terribly skinny when my DH placed it on my finger and later I gained some weight and feel that my band is going to fit the same way.... I have a dent on my finger and it does not cut circulation and does not cause any problems but i feel it will become a permanent fixture soon. Shall i get worried? My mom keeps telling me that it is a wedding ring placed in the church and i should not remove it unless there is a problem, but I am cautious. I work in cosmetology and see ladies sometimes with their rings stuck and wonder what i should do. I kinda wanted to never remove it but i am a bit scared to be locked in it forever....

There's a reason resizing rings is so common! Go get it resized so it fits you well now. It's likely you'll need it resized once or twice in your life anyway! I had to get mine resized after my first pregnancy.

Would you rather resize it, or have to get it cut off (which you would then have to resize and fix anyway, plus not wearing it for a while to let your finger heal and swelling go down)

Maybe it is funny not to want it remove since the wedding day and you are right...

I completely agree with JA! I would get it resized now before it becomes too tight and you have to cut it off your finger. Removing the ring in no way negates the promise it represents or how meaningful it is. It is just an object.

My husband and I both take our rings off when we are home. I am a painter, and I don't want to get my ring covered in paint, so I'd rather take it off and store it in a safe place than wear it and ruin it. My husband isn't a jewelry person at all, so he only wears his when he is out of our house.

We take our rings off all the time! I never wear mine while showering, doing dishes, working out, doing yard work, or working in a laboratory (my job). My husband plays hockey and golf, and also takes his off when he's on the manufacturing floor (his work). Basically, if there is a safety hazard or the ring could get dirty or damaged, we take them off. You should definitely get your ring resized if it is in danger of getting stuck on your finger. "Degloving" can happen if your ring gets caught on something (Google at your own risk, degloving is very gruesome); there are definitely situations where it is unsafe to wear a ring and you should be able to get the ring off in those situations.

I did! I participated in a couple autism studies at a university near me where they gave me an MRI while I did various things and I had to remove my ring then. Both times I became 100 dollars richer haha. Though I did forgot to put it back on for like, three months after that... oops!

We take our rings off all the time. We take them off when we get home especially when we take showers or when we do chores around the house. You may want to get your ring resized so you will not any issues with swelling, cuts and scraps, dents or it getting stuck on your finger.
