Have you ever caught the bouquet?

Lynnie, on February 7, 2018 at 10:05 AM Posted in Community Conversations 3 41

We talk a lot about whether or not you'll be tossing one, but have you ever caught the bouquet at a wedding??

If you did - were you the next to get married?

I caught the bouquet at my cousin’s wedding when I was in my early teens.

Needless to say, I was NOT the next one to be married.

I always go to the bar or the bathroom when it's time for that.

Ugh no. I was never one to want to look like an absolute fool pushing other women out of the way in front of hundreds of people lol

For some reason every wedding I’ve been too I seem to wonder off when the bouquet toss happens and I always miss it. I don’t know that I’d even participate though. We’re not going to be doing one at our wedding

Lol yes, a few years ago we went to 2 weddings 2 weeks apart, and I caught the bouquet both times, even though I wasn't really trying to. Both times I was standing on the outside of the group, and it was like the brides aimed right for me. One of them was my cousin's wedding, and my H caught the garter there too. My family thought it was hysterical, and no, we were definitely not the next ones to get married. I didn't get my ring for another 1.5 years after that lol.

At the other wedding, where some other guy caught the garter, they made me do the whole sit in the chair and he puts it on my leg thing. So gross, and so awkward with my H standing right there. He got to just below my knee and I shouted out "ok that's far enough!!" and jumped out of my seat.

I've actually never been to a wedding that did the toss. A lot of brides in my home town had pretty minimal weddings and either didn't have a bouquet or just didn't do it. I guess a lot of people don't like the idea anymore and it's faded out a lot. Since I've never seen or been a part of one, I really have no opinion lol.

I’ve caught the bouquet at 8 different weddings. I didn’t even care about getting married next, I’m just really competitive in everything haha.

I caught it at my sister's wedding...we thought it would be cute for her to throw it directly to me, but ended up looking more like the tossing equivalent of a "bunt" - and looked super obvious what we had set up. My date looked really uncomfortable (we were barely dating and "broke up" 2 weeks later, and it wasn't supposed to have anything to do with him, but still- cringe!)...was supposed to be a light, fun detail so I could have her bouquet as a keepsake for being MOH, but it was just really embarrassing in the end!

I wouldn't say I was the next to get married; it'll have been 4 years between our weddings lol.

I think I'm going to skip the bouquet toss because I'd rather have more free time than scheduled time, and we only have a few single people coming so I don't want them to feel awkward.

No, I think it's an embarrassing thing to do, and never gathered around to catch one.

I've been to plenty and never actually caught one. At my friends wedding her aunt caught it. They were trying to plan it for me to catch it but she came out of no where and grabbed it. Then no one caught the garter, it landed on the floor and no one wanted to pick it up because they felt awkward with her aunt being the one that caught the bouquet. The grooms brother finally picked it up after an excruciating amount of time. Then her aunt comes over to me and says he's too young for her and handed me the bouquet. It was the most uncomfortable thing I think I've ever dealt with. The whole thing was just so awkward.

Ironically, the only time I did catch the bridal bouquet, I was engaged the year and a half later. And yes, I was the first one of the ladies that tried to catch the bouquet to get engaged and be married. Granted, it was a very small group and half of them were children.

I always felt super awkward about joining the bouq toss because for a long time i was very happily single/non-monogamous, but at my oldest BFF's wedding i played along and stood with the other ladies when she did her toss and there's an epic photo of me actively recoiling as the bouquet passes by me...my mom was also at the wedding and could not stop laughing about it for days.

Yes - I caught it at my friend's wedding and I was the next to get engaged! Honestly, I don't even really want to do the bouquet toss at our wedding lol but my FW reminded me how I caught it at our friends and it "worked" so she's like, we need to do it at ours! Luckily my FW will have a bouquet as well so we will be throwing ours together. :-)

I caught my future SIL's bouquet and my finance proposed the next weekend. Their parents think it's hilarious.
