Has Your Registry Changed?

Pirate & 60s Bride, on February 3, 2021 at 12:16 AM Posted in Registry 0 17
Due to Covid, we had to cancel our delayed official honeymoon to France! 😢 But we did enjoy an amazing mini-moon after our wedding. 🥰 We created a Honeyfund and only tiny registries at BBB and Macy’s—really liked the combination. My brother-in-law is getting married in Oct 2021 and will probably do a honeymoon fund because they don’t want stuff. For anyone getting married in 2021 or beyond, what are you doing?

Has Covid changed your registry? Because we’re all stuck at home, are you doing a bigger retail registry (cookware, games, decor, etc)? Or would you now rather receive more money for a honeymoon? Anyone now not registering anywhere hoping guests will just gift cash? Curious and might share ideas with my brother-in-law. Thanks!

We are doing a honeyfund. We already have enough household items, etc.

That’s why we did a honeymoon fund too. Only a few items we really wanted (new dishes, cooking pans, towels). Doesn’t sound like Covid changed your registry plans?

Slightly. We wanted to go overseas but now now we'll stay within the us and go somewhere less populated like Wyoming or South Dakota

That makes sense. We’re not comfortable going overseas in 2021 either. Both of those states are very different and could be relaxing!

We are only doing a regular registry through stores, which is traditional and who doesn't want or need new stuff to update or that you wouldn't buy yourself? Our families/friends do not gift cash for special occasions and would ignore any type of honeymoon/cash fund if we were to set that up.

Good to know. I can see how “knowing your crowd” is important when choosing the type of registry you’ll do. We did tiny retail registries for guests who didn’t want to gift money. Which ones are you doing? Are you choosing different items because of Covid, or not really?

We haven't started to register yet but we're considering going with Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. Not doing anything different because of Covid.

I’ve always found that registries are for more younger couples who don’t have their own home or are just starting out. I don’t particularly care for the honeymoon fund option because it seems like you’re asking for money rather than allowing them to just give a gift of their choice whether that be money or physical gift.

We opted because we are doing a five course wine dinner for our reception to ask each guest to bring their favorite wine and label it for a future date like an anniversary or a job promotion. That way no one is pressured into giving money that maybe they don’t have -traditionally each couple would give at least $200 or a gift of that price range. With us doing the wine option we are estimating that guests will spend between $40 and $100.
My only reservation with asking for wine is that hopefully we don’t get a bunch of mass production / homogenized crap...😂😂😂

I wouldn't say Covid has changed how we are doing our registry. We already live together and have almost everything we could need. We have a small registry through Zola with a few kitchen items and some tools that we will need when we are homeowners. And a couple of cutesy decor like bookends and fun serving platters because I have family that LOVESSS to get fun gifts and will give us random stuff we won't use if we don't pick it out ourselves. We put a small cash fund option on Zola and will have a card box at the reception for anyone who wants to give cash or checks.

Thank you for sharing you opinion, Jessica. Good insight.

The wine idea is fun! 🍷 Plus, something you can enjoy in the future with each bottle. Tee hee, I hope you get some great options too. 😜

We're doing a Honeyfund! We've been living together for almost 5 years now in a rented town home and won't be moving out until our lease is up in 2022. So I don't want to get things for our home until I know what it will look like. Plus, we don't have a lot of storage space in a current place for things. So Honeyfund it is! COVID really hasn't changed anything but it may change what we include on our Honeyfund. We were hoping to do a Hawaiian cruise for our honeymoon but that probably won't happen.

Lol, that’s why we picked out a few items too! We heard some guests prefer to give physical gifts and we didn’t want to end up with matching ugly Christmas sweaters or porcelain figurines (nothing wrong with those just not our style). 😝 A card box at your reception is a good idea too. I can’t remember our stats but I think about 1/2 of guests who gave us gifts didn’t ask for registry info and brought cash or some other gift to the reception (happily, no ugly Christmas sweaters 😁).

We loved Honeyfund. So easy to use and fun seeing the experiences guests wanted us to enjoy (breakfast in bed, bike ride, wine tasting tour, etc)! My brother-in-law and his fiancée are combining homes and moving in the future too so that’s probably why they’re choosing a honeymoon fund. Thanks for sharing, Tori!

Tori, I forgot to ask, would you consider doing a mini-moon right after your wedding and use Honeyfund to fund your Hawaiian cruise (and just book it after Covid or on your one-year anniversary)? A Hawaiian cruise sounds so relaxing!

    Hi pirate!

We are not doing a honeyfund, we are not doing a registry either. We eon't need big household items and it might sound rude but I don't like the idea of doing a registry, neither do my partner. But of course, there's nothing wrong with this, it's not our cup of tea.

I basically agree with Jessica: "registries are for more younger couples who don’t have their own home or are just starting out".

We told our guests that we don't want any gift, whether that be money or items but we are 100% sure that some of them will still give cash. If they do, so be it, but we don't have any expectation since we are paying for our delayed honeymoon as well ( a "ski in ski out" resort in the rockies).

Hi Fredolino! Your honeymoon plans sound romantic. ❄️ 🎿 🌲 I hear you on not needing more “stuff.” That’ll be nice if anyone decides to gift you something that it may be cash.
