Has anyone used myregistry.com? Thoughts?

Lyndsey, on January 16, 2018 at 2:22 PM Posted in Registry 0 8
My fianceé found this app where it sounds like you can create a registry online from basically any multitude of stores, on one list. Has anyone used this? It sounds like a great idea, but I've always been iffy about online shopping....

My friend used it for their baby registry, it was super easy. I’m pretty sure it is a reputable source.

I'm using it because it lets you register for items from any online store, etc. My FH wants this particular tableware and they don't have a registry option on their site. Myregisty allows us to link to that site and it will indicate if it was purchased so we don't end up with 30 of the same item.

I can't speak to how good the service is on the guest end, but I've set up our registry there and so far so good. I chose to use the site because I didn't want to register for everything from big box stores and I also wanted to avoid Amazon for ethical/political reasons I won't go into here. With myregistry.com you can register for items from brick and mortar stores as well as smaller online shops and Etsy shops. There's no need to register for the more expensive food processor simply because Williams Sonoma doesn't carry the cheaper one you'd prefer to register for.

The one thing to know before you get everything set up is that there is a handful of stores that are affiliated with myregistry.com, and for those stores you can create a registry that will sync to your myregistry gift list, creating one seamless list for easy browsing. When people click on the items they will be taken to your registry for that store to buy the gift. However, for any store that is NOT directly affiliated with myregistry.com (e.g. Bed Bath & Beyond), you can only "link," not sync your registry, meaning that there will be a link at the bottom of your myregistry.com registry that will take guests to a separate registry from that store. If you want everything to show up on the general registry page you can simply register for those items directly through myregistry. However, then you don't get the perks offered by those stores for setting up a registry with them. Most large stores with registry services offer a 10% discount for everything on your registry that people don't buy you, or they might offer other incentives. If you register for items at those stores through myregistry.com, you don't get those benefits. But if you register through the stores' registries and then link those registries to your myregistry list, you do. Sorry if this sounds super complicated, but it's useful to know before you get everything set up, because it will save you time in the long run. If you're going to use myregistry I'd suggest fiddling around with these sorts of settings for a half an hour or so before you start adding all your items, otherwise you might end up deleting everything and re-adding it the way I did.

I created a myregistry but have decided to go with zola, they are more up to date and user friendly. plus my registry only gets payments through paypal ( if youre doing a honey fund, etc) and zola opts you to add your bank account and you can eat the credit card charges, or have your guests pay the 2% fee.

MyRegistry syncing feature is a false advertisement. You can import your Amazon registry, and spend all the time organizing it, but when your guest clicks to purchase a product, they are just redirected to the main Amazon registry page. So they have to look through your registry, find the item they want to buy, and then do the whole thing all over again on Amazon.

I strongly advise against it. My husband and I selected MyRegistry because of the option to "register" for various charitable donations in lieu of items. We didn't learn until months after our wedding that one of the nonprofits we selected never received the funds. We were obviously alarmed by this, so we reached out to inquire not only about the known missing funds, but also about the status of the other nonprofits we selected that our guests had donated to.

If we hadn't reached out, none of the charities our guests thought they were donating to would have received the intended donations. The MyRegistry support team indicated that charitable funds are processed through their partner Generous, and so they were unable to support aside from giving me contact information for Generous. I contacted Generous as the registrant, and the Accountant of the first charity that flagged this for me also reached out independently. On the charity's end, they were told that Generous was unable to locate contact information, despite there being a contact form, an email address, and a mailing address all readily accessible on the nonprofit's website, which had been provided to Generous. They straightened it out, and after waiting weeks for a response, the customer service rep finally emailed me back to indicate that all charities had successfully been issued checks and that "sometimes donations can take longer to reach a nonprofit while we verify their information or if a check is returned and we reissue a check to a nonprofit."

I responded to thank them for the update and to ask if the nonprofit had not contacted Generous directly, would outreach have been made since the website has clear contact information on many places and the donations had not been returned to my wedding guests after months of nonpayment and no outreach to the charities. I sent that email over a month ago, and the nonresponse tells me that neither I nor the donors would have ever been notified if Generous had just kept the funds, as they originally did. Total garbage.

Wow. thanks for sharing. Few people would be diligent to check up on the actual transfers to the charities. Also, there can be unreasonable fees charged -- but I guess you checked into the fee structure.
