Hairdresser Fell Through 2 Months Out

Kendal, on May 22, 2021 at 10:59 AM Posted in Oregon Planning 0 4
May 2020 we rescheduled our big day from 7/25/20 to 7/24/21, and confirmed all vendors are aware of the change and agreed to the new date. About a week ago, shortly before we found out my dad is now diabetic with an impending cancer diagnosis and the groom’s grandfather fell to his Alzheimer’s death bed, I reached out to our vendors to start confirming timelines. The hairdresser informed me I never told her the new date. Fast forward through her “I honestly would’ve put you in my calendar if you had told me”... screenshots proved she was lying. Now that she has an entire day at the salon booked, she referred me to another stylist in her salon, but I genuinely do not want to give business to a place that doesn’t keep to their word. However, now I’m on the hunt for someone available that day, and my options are limited to possibly less skilled stylists that can’t provide the look I envisioned for the day. I’m so stressed out and emotionally exhausted about family that I’m about to cave and just go with “Becky.” Other brides out there, how would you handle this less than desirable situation I’m in? And if anyone knows a hairdresser available for 7/24/21 in Hood River, OR, I’d be ever so grateful.

I was MOH in my brother's wedding and his wife forgot about hair and makeup until I mentioned it about 1.5 months before the wedding. I helped her locate a hairstylist and makeup artist that was available so while it is super stressful it is very possible. I also don't blame you for not wanting to work with their salon after what happened. I wouldn't either.

Does she rent a chair at the salon? If so, she's an independent contractor and her unorganized business practices aren't necessarily a reflection of the other hairstylists at the salon. Most -if not all, actually- hairstylist friends that I have are independent and just rent a chair.

Ask for Becky's Instagram. If she's a good stylist, she'd definitely have one that should have photos of her work.

Did you sign a contract with her, or pay for anything? I hope not, and if you did I hope you can get your money back from her if she broke your contract.

I wouldn’t give my business to her or anyone associated with her because I don’t tolerate lying, I’d rather go with someone “less experienced” who is honest vs let’s say someone famous’ hairstylist who lies

Oh I FEEL this. Long story short, the salon I booked to do my hair canceled my appointment without my consent, left me with a brand new stylist to do my hair for my elopement, charged me for that appointment (after I had already paid for a trial that I never got), and then said my wedding package was complete when they never did my trial, double charged me for the style they did for my elopement, and set up with up a lesser experienced, brand new stylist instead of the one I had requested who was familiar with my hair and face (poor guy who ended up doing my hair hadn't even met me before and still doesn't actually know what my face looks like, so he wasn't really set up for success). It took me nine months to get a refund from them for my deposit and they tried to argue that all of the parts of my contract (I never recall signing a contract, and when I asked them to send me a signed copy they never did) were void because of the pandemic. I ended up getting my deposit back but feel like I never want to go to that salon again even though all of my other in person experiences have been very positive, and I have opted to just do my own hair for my wedding. I would love to have it done by a professional but paying to be disappointed is added stress I don't need. I can disappoint myself thank you very much!

I can say that putting someone who has never worked on your hair before in charge of styling it for your wedding day is really putting a stylist in a tough spot, particularly if masks are still required and the stylist doesn't even know what your face looks like! If you aren't confident that they can do it, I would not book them. You will likely be disappointed with the outcome and really frustrated that you gave money to the salon who treated you so badly in the first place. I would get your money back and see what other salons/stylists are in the area and NOT affiliated with that salon. If you or a friend can do your own hair (even if in a style a bit different than what you imagined) maybe that can work too.
