Hair that hates being styled

Gwendolyn, on February 26, 2020 at 4:13 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 11

I have very fine, silky, and painfully straight hair. It is generally pretty flat which I've accepted. Generally this has meant I have updos or deal with curls falling out. I really don't like having my hair up and for the big day I am dreaming of something like this to go with my draped veil and hairpiece (not 100% how they would come together, but I'm open to ideas!):

Suggestions? Is there something I can start doing (wedding is in July) to help "thicken" or get it to hold style? Do I just ask for super tight curls so they start to loosen? Tell my HAMU to use a whole can of spray? Anyone else run in to this?

My hair is very similar to yours! If I don't use any product (Mousse, Hairspray, Texture Cream, Etc..) My hair dries pin straight! I let my hair air dry yesterday before work, and everyone thought I flat ironed it! Haha. I would recommend some type of texture cream or spray. I use Not Your Mothers "Plump For Joy" Dry Shampoo for extra lift and texture when I am curling my hair. It seems to work well! I am also hoping my curls don't fall out on my big day! Best thing you can do is take advice from your HAMU. They are the pro for a reason! Smiley smile GOOD LUCK!

My hair is so straight that curls don’t typically hold so my stylist made really tight curls that eventually softened by ceremony and unfolded completely by end of the night

I too get the flat iron question, or people just being blown away that I don't need to. The only texture it gets is from me sleeping on it, lol!

I wonder if I should let her know before the trial even, and see if she has any ideas. I'm definitely planning to try fluffing up with some dry shampoo! Thank you for the suggestion, I haven't tried this brand! Smiley smile

How long was that (when did you have it curled / end of the night)? We aren't having a traditional reception - just dinner, so it shouldn't have to last TOO long (or through a ton of movement).

I have this same issue! I'm planning on having extensions for the wedding to help with the volume and hopefully help hold curls better. Otherwise it takes a full can of hair spray and still falls straight within a couple hours

I would contact her and let her know your concerns beforehand! And Not Your Mother's is the only hair products I'll use now. My hair started to thin and fall out about a year ago, all I had ever used was Aussie, I was literally killing my hair. But since the product switch, my hair growth has been amazing! The Shampoo and Conditioner that has helped me is Not Your Mother's "Way to Grow". I saw a difference in just about a month or two!

The right stylist should be able to style your hair! My hair is very fine but she just used the right products (styling mousse & hairspray & lots of teasing and dry shampoo) and I had clip in extensions to help!

For my engagement pics, I did a hair and makeup trial. The most recommended salon in the area only had my hair hold for about a hour and a half. It didn't even make it through my engagement shoot. So I booked for a body wave perm 60 days before my wedding and also bought extensions for volume. It should definitely hold curl on my wedding day after that

My hair is very thick and fine and ridiculous when it comes to curling or styling in any way...it does not work. I’m planning on having one big braid in my hair with the hairpiece and I’m also going to get clip in extensions. I’m definitely looking forward to my hair trial. Hair that hates being styled 4

I agree with others to talk to your stylist. She’ll know what to do.
Dry shampoo works great to add some texture to your hair. The idea is to “dirty” it up. My hair has a slight natural wave to it, but won’t hold a curl for anything. Stylists would even point out that the curls she just did on one side of my head had fallen before she finished the other side. So I use dry shampoo throughout my hair, roots to ends, to give it the texture it needs and curls will stick around for a while.
