Hair & Makeup timeline help!!

Are you using a day-of coordinator or managing all logistics yourself?

It's better to be safe than sorry when allotting time for hair and makeup, but 2 hours and 15 minutes is a REALLY long time to be getting your hair done. Are you doing a really intricate style? Seems that 60-90 minutes is usual for bridal hair according to this weddingwire article, with 90 minutes already on the high end.

When planning this stuff I use a spreadsheet where you can designate each cell to stand for 15 minute increments. I would lay it out on the spreadsheet, backing up from the time everyone has to be ready, and mark at which point the photographer arrives.

Getting ready photos are usually staged and taken once everyone is already all done up, so I would plan for you all to be at the stage where the artist is doing touch ups when the photographer comes (no one wants their photo taken when they are actually mid-makeup!).

Trust the hair and makeup teams to be able to accurately estimate how much time they need per person because they do this for a living every day/week. So they know how to efficiently get the services done. If they tell you they need x amount of time per person, they have the expertise to back that up and it’s not your responsibility to assume they are estimating wrong. Depending on how many people you have, they will bring in competent assistants to get everyone done on time. The same applies for photographers.

So to make a wedding timeline- you start at ceremony start time and work back. (or foward) My ceremony start time was 4pm Wedding party in their places half an hour before (3:30) If you want to do a first look add half an hour, (I did mine at the venue, you'll need to add travel time if you are doing your first look somewhere else) (3:00pm) Put on your dress (this was the time it took find it- my step mom moved it to the venue) (2:30) Then make-up. this is the part where the numbers are unfortionate. an hour per person for hair and make up for 5 people is 5 hours. (or 5 and a half with your numbers) your options: start at 10:30am (10:30-1:00) then go get lunch and do your first look while your brides maids are still getting their hair done (1:00-3:00). Everyone still arrives at the venue on time. Or everyone gets their hair done simultaneously. For my wedding, we all went to a salon and got our hair done at the same time. We carpooled to denny's (left at home at 9am) then my mom dropped me off for my appointment at 11:30, and then drove back and picked up everyone else for their appointments at 12:30 and everyone was done at 1:30. [I got my hair done at a strip mall across the highway from a denny's] 30 minute drive to where ever you are getting dressed
