Hair extensions.. Tape ins or Clip ins?

Brittany, on September 27, 2021 at 10:45 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7

So I always had really long hair but after a horrific hair salon experience it was cut and hasn't grown back to what it was so I have decided to get extensions so I can feel more like myself on my wedding day. Now the problem is I've never had them before. I thought tape in made the most sense because I could keep them in and have them for my honeymoon and feel more confident in my appearance for that. But, I am nervous because I tend to pick at things and I feel like if I feel the glue in my hair I will pick and I have been warned if that happens I could potentially lose some of the hair I've been trying to grow out these last 3 years. The obvious other concern is cost, tape ins are more expensive which is money I could use for other things. Now clip ins are an option but I don't know if I'd want to travel with them or even how to. Any advice from anyone who might be more familiar with this process then this newbie would be so helpful.

I have no experience with tape ins, but I went for the ones that clip on for my trial and they worked real nicely! I’m excited to see how they look day of

You can also get them sewn in, which needs to be redone every 6 months, or get links.. I had tape ins and hated them. If you go to a extension specialist they should be able to let you know what would be the best choice for your hair

I am currently on the same boat with you!!!😭 Extensions ARE expensive. Especially the longer you go (18 in and longer) I tried sew ins last year and they are pricey since you have to move them up every 6-8 weeks. Tape ins you have to be extremely careful to prevent hair damage. My top fave (currently have) but it IS costly is the ktips keratin micro tips. They last 3/4 months but you CANT reuse them. The pros is that there’s no maintenance and they’re so freely/comfortable! I just ordered 22inch length seamless clip ins from bellami! ($274 tax included) since my hairdresser recommended them for low cost since I’m due for a new set. The downside is not being able to have long hair everyday. My hairstylist is going to clip them in on my hair trial and wedding day, since I’m not a pro yet! Lol . Wedding is in 47 days 🤍

I hated tape-ins also. If you are OK with just having them for the wedding, then clip-ins will be your best option. If you want to keep them for a while, I would definitely do sew-ins.

I had tape-ins and they gave me the length and volume I wanted for my wedding. I kept them in for 5 weeks. You do need to be careful with them (washing, brushing), and you can’t do things I assumed you could (ponytail because the tape might show). And don’t freak out when they are removed because it seems like you lose a lot of hair but it’s the extensions. I’d do them again. Get them about 2 weeks before your wedding so they can grow out a bit and you can adjust/remove any that end up showing.

If you're using a hair stylist they'll put the clip ons in as they're styling your hair

I highly recommend clip ons over anything semi permanent. You don't want to risk damage or discomfort to your hair close to your wedding

I've done both. You really don't feel the tape in extensions after having them for a couple of days. You just get used to it. They do take a fair bit of maintenance, so be prepared for that.

I decided to use clip in for my wedding. They are easier, less expensive, and provided me with the look I was going for that day.
