Guest book wording?

Chandra, on December 9, 2018 at 11:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Hey ya'll....I'm kind of having a brain fart/over thinking moment.
I'm getting ready to make a sign for our guest book. I'd like people to write us a short message rather than just sign their name, so I designed the guestbook with that in mind.
If I put "Please sign our guestbook" on the sign....will people just sign their names?
Should I put "Leave us a note in our guestbook" ??

The last weddings I went to had cutesy non book guest books! I cannot for the life of me figure this out right now. Haha

I think since you want them to write a message instead of just their name, a sign saying so is necessary. I would assume to write a note if I saw your guest book at a wedding but I like to remove all doubt whenever possible lol.

There's the super cutesy, "leave wishes for the new Mr. and Mrs." but I attached a couple pictures that are also pretty cute.

How big are you looking to make this sign? Because I like "please leave us a note," but then I went a little farther (too far?) and came up with this really cutesy phrasing.

"The bride and groom ask that you please leave a note. Something witty, fun, or cute, wise words or a quote." (I like rhymes. Smiley winking )

Oh, I like that a lot better than my phrasing. Is this the actual sign?

It's adorable, Chandra!! I'd definitely stop if I was walking by it, which makes me think that I would definitely sign your guest book! Smiley smile

Honestly, if you had a sign that was cutesy worded trying to encourage me to leave a note, I'd be way less likely to do it because I find all of the wedding signs annoying. I'd just have the guestbook out but make sure your parents and/or bridal party members sign it how you would like first to set the tone. Some people will just sign their names, but that is fine.

Also, think of it this way; if I took the time to write a nice note to you in the card, why do you need one again just so it fits in your book? I hate this expectation that I'm supposed to do both all of a sudden.

I don’t think we will have a traditional guest book but as we are also doing a partly Disney theme I’m gonna make a sign saying Be Our Guest

Well to be honest I didnt even care to have a guest book because its not something I'm going to look at often. FH said we should have one as most of our crowd is older and they'd expect one.
I'm sure half the guests wont sign it anyway, but I see nothing wrong with a sign with fun wording. It's not like I'm having somebody stand there and force people to write long messages to me.
You wanna sign your name only? Be my guest. You wanna take up half a page? Go for it. You dont wanna sign at all? Cool.

You don't need a sign. It's normal to leave a note. If you are concerned, ask a few friends/family members, wedding party would be good people, to leave a message to get it started.

    Smiley laugh

A sign would have been so smart! I thought I would be smart and order a book with unlined pages. Everyone was so obedient on the first page --- wrote their names as if there were lines. Then the next pages people started writing more free form messages.
