Give me your best wet wedding tips!

Rosie, on February 22, 2022 at 7:41 PM Posted in Planning 1 13
So it has been pouring for days, like literal sheets of rain. I’m kind of hoping the sky is just dumping all of its water and getting it all out of its system ahead of our wedding day in three days time but I’m also not naive enough to think that’s likely, lol!

We have an indoor ceremony plan and umbrellas, and I know you can get some very beautiful and dramatic photos in the wet, (plus that old saying about a knot tied in the wet being stronger etc) but is there anything else we should be thinking about, planning or doing in these final days? Anything we can or should rush out and buy? Anything we should know?
Tell me about wet wedding days!

It poured all morning on our wedding day. Besides making sure we had umbrellas handy I wouldn’t say we needed anything else. I got ready at our reception venue and had to get to the car to drive to our ceremony location. That required coordination. It took my mom and my sister helping me get into the car. I think a random stranger helped at some point too.

I'd recommend, if you could, clear umbrellas. They'll still let natural light through for pictures where as colored or opaque umbrellas will cast shadows in that color on your face/dress

Fingers crossed that you have beautiful weather on your wedding day!! If it does rain, I love the idea of colorful and/or clear umbrellas. If the rain stops partway through the wedding, you might also be able to get a photo or two with a rainbow in the sky.

The only other things I can think of are maybe floor mats at your venue entrance to help keep the floors dry? Or if it's super muddy in the parking lot, maybe asking people to remove their shoes at the door to help keep the floor dry and free from mud?

Here is an article I found with some rainy wedding inspiration photos: https://www.buzzfeed.com/melissaharrison/beautiful-rainy-day-weddings

Are you getting ready at your venue? If not, some way to keep the bottom of your dress clean and dry until you get inside and golf umbrellas to cover you getting into the venue.

Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for sunny skies for you though. Whether it's raining or not, you are going to have a beautiful wedding. My brother and SIL got married in the middle of Tropical Storm Debbie and had to make last minute change for an indoor event - but they got wonderful pictures out in the rain after the ceremony.

Be mindful of what is left out overnight. My sister's wedding day was supposed to be clear skies but it rained overnight. They had set up all the tables, chairs, cushions the night before! So they were trying to dry off every inch on wedding day.

Haha, I'm expecting I'll need to do something similar too, my dress is huge, with a giant train, and a large veil, so it will take coordination for sure, even if it's dry! (which doesn't look likely!)

Ooh mats is a good idea, yes! And a rainbow would be so lovely, if it has to rain at all. I'm thinking though, even if the rain stopped right now, and was fine until our wedding day that things wouldn't really dry out in time. It's likely to be really soggy either way. I suppose we'll know for sure when we visit our venue tomorrow for our last minute-check, and will make the decision then

Thank you so much! Yes, a bit worried about the dress - there's no facility at the venue to get ready, really, so I'm getting ready elsewhere. It's only 7 minutes' drive or so but it's still a lot of wrangling of dress from venue to venue if it's as wet as it is today!

Ooh good plan. I don't think our venue set up until morning of, thankfully, but good to actually triple check with our venue when we see them tomorrow so I know for sure!

This sounds absolutely ridiculous as I type it but could you put feet holes in a big garbage bag, step into it and hold your dress up in the bag so it doesn’t get wet or muddy while going from getting ready to your venue? 😭

Genius! Saving this idea in case I have the same situation.
