Girl nah! Oops i meant Grill yah... what's your favorite eat fresh of the grill? (on site cooking)

Joey, on February 12, 2021 at 2:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

One of the venues I am considering in Missouri, Kansas city side has the option to use a giant outdoor grill for up too 100 burgers at a time. I think this is a super interesting idea although unlikely to be utilized. How would I even go about finding a chef? A caterer? That would be down to use the venues grill and would it take to long or even be worth it to have fresh grilled food for a group of 75 -120. I was thinking this could be a interesting way to penny pinch if we just hire a cook and provide the stuff. Honestly even breaking even if the food quality is right would be fabulous. I totally feel like buying half a cow or whatever and having it cooked up could be fun. (eek don't grill me I know nothing about grilling! That's the fiancés job whenever he pleases. )

Although if this idea is feasible I am worried it may be to hoakey it would be in an apple orchard. Hopefully in the spring so its all green instead of fall red. Since we want to do a more stormy cloud colored wedding. Do ya'll think stormy blues and greys would clash with the orchard since it's a little more groomed then a forest.

Please feel free to drop a fun food for grilling, advice, or a favorite grilling story!

Edit: sorry for the typo in the title with that I!

Contact a caterer on thumbtack.com or your favorite local restaurant as most of them do corporate catering for pennies and it is much tastier, more food, etc than a standard wedding caterer.

A personal chef/caterer would definitely be able to do this for you! My FH is a chef and uses tableathome.com to get work sometimes and people submit things like this. He did a custom stir fry station for 30 people and the guests had to wait for each plate to be individually cooked, but they didn't mind at all since it was part of the "show". You may get push back on using your ingredients though. Normally the chef provides what they think are quality ingredients.

No advice on where to find a caterer, but just came to say, I almost booked a venue I was looking at SOLEY because they had a menu package that allowed me to have hot dogs at my wedding Smiley xd

My guy is a basic man but I am sure there is a way to bougie up hotdogs! I was just thinking more what caramelized pineapple goodness would bring.

Have options if possible. Basic toppings for most and more exotic for those who request them. Going back to your burger suggestion, many just want basic cheddar, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, onion and won't eat them if they have fancier toppings even though fancier may appeal to you.

I don't know how open to this you'd be but a lot of Latinx owned business (like butcher chops, stores and restaurants) offer their cooking services for very good deals. You provide the ingredients, they do everything else. I LOVE grilled fajitas, veggies, fresh salsa molcajete and carne asada. My FIL will be butchering the meat and taking it over to our cook. She'll be marinating and slow cooking the birria, making enough beans and rice to feed 65+ people. The price? $90!!! It is soo much cheaper and fresher than regular catering IMHO. Good luck with planning!

That sounds super sweet! I love exploring the spiciest salsas I can. To my fiancés eternal regret. He's never been big on beans. I think it is because his family's doesn't know how to cook! Often I am one of three that bring something homemade to the family potlucks q.q. I would hands down love it and I bet he'd do it just to make me happy and see if he can get quesadillas with just cheese all night. I would be so grateful to find somebody in my area who would do that for me! Thanks for the thought azy maybe ill be brave and lucky and find some new friends.

If I did go burger I would certainly have choices for topping not pre applied unless I knew for sure they liked certain things. I would probably offer black bean burgers too or just grilled chicken.(got a lot of cute hippie family from Washington and black bean would work for a lot of them) Although I am trying to think of food items that aren't burgers like the magical fajita idea mentioned earlier.

A grill doesn't necessarily mean burgers. Chicken, shrimp skewers, salmon, etc. A Santa Maria-style barbecue is always a nice option as well. I've seen that done at a couple of weddings and it worked out well both times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Maria-style_barbecue
