Getting married in Mexico - Need creative favors - easy to pack!

YoungS123, on August 24, 2010 at 1:03 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21

I'm getting married in Mexico and I'm struggling to come up with a creative favor that will pack and travel "easily" to Mexico. My initial thought was to skip the favors, take lots of pics while we're there and send the guest something personalized....with their pic after the wedding....like a 2011 calendar....what do you ladies think???

You can get Mexican wedding cokies. They taste great and your cater should be able to pack them for you.

You can also give them a welcome bag. You leave them at the reception and your guest pick them up when they check in. Our out of town guests love them!

Paula D's idea is great! Also, if you prefer, you can order 2011 calendars right now with your engagement photo, pack them and ship them to your hotel, or just put them in your baggage-they will travel well, for sure! I am doing a destination wedding also and have no desire to carry everyone's gifts with me. I am doing a small party a few weeks before and giving everyone their giftsSmiley smile

Here are my ideas and hope this helps

    1. Appetizers (Jamaican Themed)

    2. Drinks

    3. Small Gift Bags: Sun Tan Lotion and other items from the dollar store (advil, cotton balls, things you may forget to pack)

    4. CD of Beach Songs

    5. Packet about the resort, things to do, activities that we will be going on etc......

The calendar is a gret idea, but you could also donate to some causes/charities that are important and special to you and your FS

We're having a wedding in Mexico too Smiley smile We're planning on getting the reception favors when we get there; we were thinking tequila and/or souveniers (sp?). But, we are also doing the welcome bags w/advil, sunscreen, itenerary, etc. If your having it near/in playa del carmen, you could go to 5th street for souvenier galore!

You could do decorated sugar skulls for your favors so they are both apart of the food and a gift? Because they last for awhile if people did not want to eat them. Not sure how this would work, though, with traveling.

Honestly, I would buy the favors there. The local gift shops and artisan mercantiles are fantastic! And you can get some totally amazing deals. I would get them something like a hand painted picture frame, or platter or something. They run like $2 each there and are incredibly beautiful. Then you save on shipping and they get a lovely souvenier.

I'd definately buy something small from the locals - remember they have to pack this home & the airlines are getting picky about weight restrictions (yep - they are weighing bags more often these days & charging for the overage.)

If the wedding has an outside element, maybe fans for the ladies? Tequila mini bottles?

The things I bought there, lemme tell you, I will treasure forever! I think I spent $30 for a very large bowl, candle sticks, and a picture frame, all hand painted. My wedding photos look so cute in it too Smiley smile I really would do that for the guests.

@Analy, so you had your wedding in Mexico?! If so, we haven't finalized the resort, so if you have any suggestions on the best resorts around there, please let me know Smiley smile

@Redd- Nope, I got married in CA, but we honeymooned in Cancun. We stayed at the Westin Lagunamar (there are several). It was INCREDIBLE!! The pool has a huge restaurant and bar inthe middle of it that people would pay to come and use every day (people from other resorts). It has the largest infinity pool, I think, in the world! Just fabulous!
