Funny or Surprising Dress Stories

The coolest part of my wedding dress was the cape. It’s this gorgeous, dramatic, unusual detail that made me feel beautiful and powerful. I started picturing my fiancé’s first look at it from the moment I tried it on. A few weeks before the wedding, we’re at a party with some coworkers, the wedding came up and my coworker looks at Patrick and says “Hey, did you know Andrea’s dress has a cape?” I got so upset and had to go into the kitchen to try not to cry.


I realized as I’m in the kitchen that I’d never told him any details. There was no way for him to know about the cape. Turns out he was just trying to joke and said a detail he thought was so ridiculous it couldn’t be true, thinking of a superhero cape. So that’s how my fiance found out about the biggest secret of my dress, because I didn’t recognize my idiot coworker was joking. 🤦‍♀️ It was funny after the fact!!

My husband really wanted the first time he saw me in my wedding dress to be at the alter. Unfortunately, we had a late ceremony time for our destination wedding, so the only way to get the shots we wanted during daylight was to do photos before the ceremony. But I really wanted him to have that experience, since it was so important to him. So I secretly bought 2 dresses and wore the reception dress during our pre-ceremony. He assumed that was my wedding dress. Boy was he surprised when I walked down the aisle in a completely different dress! It was the perfect way for both of us to get the experience we wanted!

Lara mentioned something her friends had encountered when expecting their fiancés won't see their dress before the wedding; "It's funny, most fiancés won't peek, don't want to even- but I HAVE had some girlfriends whose fiancés' have gotten too curious and snuck the peeks! Getting caught by the brides too! (During or after- they noticed the bag different or the gown itself on the hanger!)"

Maybe some other brides have had this happen.

My fiancé didn’t see my dress at all until I walked down the aisle. However, we were talking to my mom and the subject came up about what type of dress he would like to see me in (like a sweetheart neckline). she (my mom) jokingly said she make sure of that. I was like it’s not up to her and he would have wait to see what type of dress I would get. Apparently as I was walking down mom caught his attention and she pointed to me saying I told I would help you out (cracking up laughing). He couldn’t believe the type of dress I had on (which was a sweetheart neckline). I was like she had nothing to do with it. It so happened I liked and love my dress. We crack up laughing because he went on what my mom said and he knows that she helped picked it out.

One bride was concerned about her mom trying on her dress but since the dress would not be her mom's style she would be okay storing it at her mom's place. Anyone else have that concern?
