Food Trucks?

Jessica, on August 11, 2019 at 12:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 9
Hi I was going over costs and ideas for food and cheaper alternatives. So I was thinking of a food truck specifically a bbq one because we love it. How many of you did a food truck at your reception? Did ot save you money? As well as for anyone in the West Glacier, MT area can you give me sone recommendations?

I don't live in MT but wanted to say a food truck will likely cost as much if not more than catering because they sometimes need permits to operate and the cost of food is high because of the added fuel ect costs. Also portions tend to be smaller so it's not as filling. I wanted a BBQ food truck but the cost was so high before adding in the cost of plates ect.

We looked into food trucks. Jelly is right, they’re not necessarily cheaper. They are delicious and fun, but you may not save money. Absolutely look into it though, you never know!

I really wanted to use a local food truck that does wood fired pizza, but they were booked for our date 🙁. However, the cost would have been about the same as many catering options we looked at for buffet style. It wouldn’t have saved us any money and may have cost us a bit more with their travel fee. I think it’s a fun option, but not a money saving option generally!

I agree with previous posters - I looked into a food truck for a family reunion and it was not cheap. I would love to attend a wedding reception with a food truck, though!!!

Food trucks are expensive! I went to a wedding in Santa Barbara that had 3 different food trucks and it was GREAT! When I looked into this for my own wedding I realized I couldn’t even afford 1!

So for me some of the food trucks I have been looking into are have been a decent amount cheaper than the price of the caterers I have been looking at.

It depends on what you want. Pizza places have been showing to be more expensive while an empanada or hand pie truck (who does full catering) have been showing to be less expensive. Caterers tend to be more expensive because of the full service aspect too. My calculations (for Milwaukee mind you) have been less expensive for 2 trucks (one dinner, one late night) than a full on caterer or catering service. It depends on where you are, how far they have to travel, and what you all want to serve. Also, look at EVERYONES policies and procedures. I was about to decide on meeting with a caterer based on pricing and inclusions, then I saw their policy was to add an 18% service fee (which is not their gratuity) to each catering event... yikes! Just keep that in mind when doing your calculations!
